The best period of HFM’s melody was the 50s. Countless sweet melodies were brought out by talented composers. The whole atmosphere in India that time was highly conducive to the growth and spread of Indian film industry. newer markets were being added for overseas exhibition, thus making the actors and singers earn more.

Lata Mangeshkar has rendered songs under the batons of hundreds of Hindi film music directors. But some connoisseurs of Hindi film music are of the view that her combination with Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra and Madan Mohan produced many of her best songs from Hindi films. I feel that to this list, the name of music director Roshan should be added as Lata-Roshan combination churned out some of their best songs. Take for example, songs in ‘Malhaar’ (1951), ‘Hum Log’ (1951), ‘Raag Rang’ (1952), ‘Naubahaar’ (1952), ‘Taj Mahal’ (1963), ‘Chitralekha’ (1964), ‘Mamta’ (1966) to quote a few films. Some of her songs under the baton of Roshan may not have become as popular as that of her songs with Naushad and Shankar Jaikishan, but there is some uniqueness in her renditions under Roshan just as her renditions under Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra and Madan Mohan were unique.

THE GENTLEMAN MAESTRO….
————————-
White full shirt, ironed white pyjama, spectacles with big powerful lenses and the trademark white Gandhi Topi… He could easily be mistaken for a ‘Pandharpur Warkari’ (a regular pilgrim to Pandharpur) or a member of a ‘Bhajani Mandali’ or simply a middle class ‘Marathi Manoos’. Such was the appearance of one of Hindi filmdom’s talented, yet not so famous, music maestro VASUDEV GANGARAM BHATKAR or Snehal Bhatkar, as we all know him.

When the song “baat koi matlab ki” from Apradhi Kaun (1957) was posted here yesterday, one of the comments on it – from Arunji – referred to another song, “phir wohi dard hai”, from this film that had not yet been posted.
I immediately responded to that comment, saying I would post this song too at the earliest.
