C Ramchandra was one of the first music directors to make the most of Lata’s voice. In fact, C Ramchandra’s association with Lata was somewhat similar to O P Nayyar’s association with Asha in more ways than one. It was C Ramchandra who played an important role in making Lata the singer that she became in 1950s.

When I was a kid, then my musical likings were very clear. I only liked new movie songs, preferably sung by Kishore Kumar. I disliked old songs, and I also disliked songs based on folk music, which I regarded as rustic music not worthy of a city slicker like me. 😉

Mera qaraar le jaa

I have posted two songs from “Aashiana”(1952) in ther past. One was a Lata song ( mere piya se koi jaake) and other was a Talat Mahmood song (main paagal mera manwaa paagal). Both these songs are superb memorable songs.

Most of Madan Mohan movies were made by struggling movie makers with lesser known actors. In some cases, Madan Mohan worked with bigger names too, but that was either before these people actually became stars ( viz Amitabh Bachchan in “Parwana”) or after they had run their courses ( viz Dev Anand in “Sahib Bahadur”). The first movie where Madan Mohan got to work with big name actors was in “Madhosh” (1952) which had Raj Kapoor and Nargis. Unfortunately this movie did not do well at the box office.
