We in this blog have been discussing HFM (and also NFS) for nearly nine years by now.

Availability of songs is a necessary and mandatory requirement for discussing a song. I recall that we in the early days of the blog used to discuss songs that were well known songs which were readily available on YT.

“Bhai Bahan” was a very common title for movies during the golden era of HFM. There were atleast three movies with this title in 1950, 1959 and 1969.

This song is from the film Pehli Raat-59. This patently Tear- Jerker film was made by A.A.Nadiyadwala’s Pushpa Pictures and it was directed by P.L.Santoshi who, once upon a time used to be a man with a Magic Wand. Ravi was the music director. Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist. This duet is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Manna Dey. The cast of the film was Sohrab Modi, Nimmi, Rehman, Nanda, Sudesh Kumar, Lalita Pawar, Johnny Walker etc.

Today’s song is from the film Daaka-59. The film was directed by Nanabhai Bhatt and its music was by Chitragupta – one of the very few composers in films to make melodious tunes in almost every film. According to me, Chitragupta, along with Hansraj Behl, Khemchand Prakash and Ravi, formed a quartet of composers, who had tremendous talents and who made melodious music in almost every film that they were associated with !

It is a very special occasion for the blog but this special occasion escaped everyone’s attention. The reason could be that my manual score keeping gave me a different figure compared to the automatic count given by the blog. When I accidentally looked at the count on the right hand side of the blog, I found out that Asha Bhonsle’s count of songs in the blog stood at the round figure of 2000 !

Old film music lovers have always been curious about the less known artistes of music, like composers or arrangers and background music makers. Occasional or unkunown singers are also a matter of curiosity. Some of the old time composers used to give music under names other than their own known names. Some examples are Lata mangeshkar gave music to Marathi films as ‘Anandghan’, Snehal Bhatkar used names like B.Vasudev or V.G.Bhatkar in his initial phase, C.Ramchandra gave music as ‘Annasaheb’, while composing songs for Master Bhagwan’s stunt films, and GM Durrani used the name ‘Gunjan’ when composing music for films, etc.
