This philosophical song from “Upkaar” was one which Indeewar had written a few years earlier and Anandji ( of Kalyanji Anandji music director duo) liked it so much that he kept the lyrics with him. When one listens to this song, and finds out that Shankar Jaikishan are the music directors and Hasrat Jaipuri the lyricist, then one can safely assume that this Rafi song is picturised on Shammi. And indeed, I have thought so about this song for more than four decades. It indeed seems to fulfil all the ingredients that one had in a Shammi Kapoor movie.
