“Dastak” (1970) was a movie on a theme that called for mature audience, But Indian audience, media as well as the censors were not mature at that time. Such movies were regarded as obscene and were given A certificates. I am writing again today to document another very important interaction; an interaction that has been a dream for me for many months now. I am in San Diego today, and the local time is 2.00 am. And I am writing this post from the residence of Shri Surjit Singh ji. I am sure friends on this blog would be familiar with his name, in context of Hindi films and film music. He is a diehard fan of this music, and has been playing a major role in raising awareness about it, collecting rare materials and making them available on the internet. When one looks at the Hindi movie actors of today, one finds that almost all of them are relatives of old time movie personalities. And those who are not, become related to old time film personalities by marrying into such families. So much so that it is a daunting task for rank outsiders to break into Hindi movies.

I became aware of “Puraskaar” (1970) after Memsaab reviewed this movie in her blog. It turns out that the movie is a treasure of great songs. I wonder how I was not aware of this movie when it was released in 1970s, seeing that this movie had music by R D Burman and I, like most music lovers was a big fan of R D Burman’s music.

“Mera Naam Joker” (1970) was an ambitious movie of Raj Kapoor which unfortunately failed big time at the box office when it was released. The box office debacle was so big that it took Raj Kapoor quite some time to recover from it, and when he recovered, he had made a clean break from the past, in the sense that his musical team was totally revamped.

“Suhaana Safar” (1970) is an obscure movie despite being a “recent” movie by the standards of this blog :). The movie was produced by R C Kumar and directed by Vijay. Its starcast had Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, David Abraham, Lalita Pawar, K. N. Singh, Om Prakash, Tiwari, Bhagwan, Sunder, Manmohan Krishna, Leela Misra, Randhir, Mukri, Keshto Mukherjee etc in it. Now we know why the movie was obscure despite being a recent movie :).

In this blog, there are songs that belong to the category of “Why was this song not discussed earlier” category. Then there are cases of movies where the movie itself was/is not represented in the blog. “Aradhana” (1969) was one movie that was not represented for a long time.
