I haven’t seen the movie Dasvidaniya(2008), but what I have heard about it makes me want to see it. From what I have read of it, it is a story of a terminally-ill patient, who after receiving the news of the terminal nature of his illness, decides to live his life fully and to achieve ten important things in his life.

Most of the popular Hindi film songs of golden era are remembered even today not only because of melodies and rhythms embedded in them but also because the lyrics of those songs are poetic and meaningful. The quality of lyrics in Hindi film songs started deteriorating sometime from the beginning of 90s and by 2000 onwards, the deterioration in lyrics was almost complete. However, there were a few poet-lyricists who continued to write meaningful lyrics for the Hindi film songs even in 21st century though they had to occasionally cross the ‘self imposed laxman rekha’ in keeping with the current waves of the Hindi film music. It is often remarked that the current generation i. e. my generation is devoid of any patriotic feeling or love for the country. We have no sense of societal obligations or awareness about how we have acheieved the freedom enjoyed by us or know nothing about the greatness of the country. This is not true though. We do love India. We do know the things that make it India. However we are also acutely aware of all that doesn’t make us proud of it.

Browsing through this blog today, my eye fell upon a song category which was “chai song”. The word chai makes me think immediately of one of my best friends ever, lets call her V. We worked in the same office, but it took another common friend who worked elsewhere to introduce us. My friend H got to know her and upon finding out where she worked immediately called me up and said “You must go and talk to this girl called V, she is truly bindaas, you will like her.”
