Today’s song is the last song from the film ” Maha Pooja”-1954 to be covered here and thus making the film YIPPEED !
In the last 8 songs of this film, a lot of related matters, including its story, has been discussed. The film is about the well known story of The Satyanarayan Katha, its importance and how performing this Pooja can benefit the person doing it. This Pooja is perhaps one of the several common religious and cultural events performed in most parts of India. It is believed that it benefits not only the performer but also those who are present at the Pooja time and consume the Prasad. That is an invitation to attend a Satyanarayan Pooja is generally honoured by everyone.

Kamsune-Ansune Songs of Asha Bhosle – 3
—————————————–
Four years ago, our friend and a regular contributor to this blog Sadanand Kamath Ji, introduced a movie which was ready in 1975 but had to wait a full 13 years before finally getting a release in 1988. This movie was titled as “Aaj Raat Ko” in 1975 only for this to be changed to “Faisla” in 1988. The song presented by Kamath Ji was a gem by Mohd. Rafi Saab – Champa Khiledaar
Today, I’ll be presenting a beauty of a song from this movie. “Koi Toh Aaye Re” is sung by Asha Bhosle, penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by R D Burman.

Today’s song is from a film with a funny title – Dhobi Doctor-1954.
During my initial days of career in the Pharmaceutical industry, this was the name we used for a Fake doctor or a R.M.P doctor, practicing in villages and small towns or the poor areas of cities. The joke on them was that they would wash the patients clean of their money instead of treating their disease ! Hindi film industry is replete with comical film titles galore. A sample of some film titles….Aaja Nachle, Aadam ka janam, Aag laga do sawan ko, Awara Paagal Deewana, Bombai ki Billi, Banana Brothers, Chhatri Chor, Chaar Chakram, Chillar party, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Faaltu, Gabroo, Ghar mein ho sali to poora saal Diwali etc.etc. I stop here because the list will be too long.

Hampi, one of the World Heritage Sites of India, was once the capital of Vijayanagar Empire in the 16th century and was the wealthiest city under the Empire. Most of the monuments had been damaged and the wealth looted by the then neighbouring sultanates in the war with Vijayanagar Empire. We had visited Hampi in January 2012 and stayed there for 4 days. Some monuments are still intact, and they are awesome so also the remains of the ruined monuments. The visit to Hampi momentarily gave us a feeling that we were in the memory lane of the Vijayanagar Empire of the 16th century as Hampi, now as a village, retains the charm of a bygone era.

Today’s song is from the film Satta Bazar-1959.
The 50’s decade was full of films which had ‘Family’ as the main focus in their stories. Relationship importance, Values’ germination in the youngsters, denouncing social evils and bad habits etc. were the story essentials in many films. Use of western music in films increased and the audience got a variety of music presentations to please them. In short, films truly became Entertainment.
