When needy people need help, they often appeal for help, and help pours in from all quarters. When I discussed the previous Zohrabai ambalewaali song, i mentioned that I was struggling to get Zohrabai Ambalewaali songs to discuss. I have known Bharatbhai since more than one year through our blog. I met him at his Andheri residence on his last but one birthday. From the telephone conversation with him, I was looking forward to a youngish person but he turned out to be quite a senior person but with a straight back, sprightly gait and a young voice.

On the joyous occasion of Atul Sir’s reaching a 10,000 milestone, I am posting this fabulous solo by Hamida Bano Ji from Shehenshah Babar (1944) composed by stalwart Khemchand Prakash Ji. The reason for me chosing this song is the superior quality of lyrics written by the great Pandit Indra Chandra Ji.

In 1952, this voice came to the fore with the rousing proclamation of “Vande Maatram, Vande Maatram”. This song, which comes from the seminal creation of Bankim Chandra Chatterji – ‘Anand Matth’, was first published in 1882. Film Industry is truly a Maya Nagari. No one knows how the luck will change the course of one’s career in Film and Music world. Who would have thought that an ill-nourished looking, slim, imple girl, wearing an ordinary cotton saree, with torn kolhapuri chappals-who waited on an empty stomach for whole night for just one song from Ghulam Hyder-would one day become the undisputed QUEEN of playback singing in Indian Films ?….
