Today’s song is from the film Badi maa-1945.Don’t go by the film’s name.It is not a family drama, involving 2 mothers – Badi Maa and Chhoti Maa. Here the word Badi Maa is used for ‘Our Motherland’. It is a love story filmed on the background of the II World War in a Nondescript town.
The film was made by Prafull Pictures, Bombay, owned by Master Vinayak -father of actress (Baby) Nanda.

There were 5 films called Maa and its varieties like Badi Maa, Chhoti Maa. Then there were Maa films with Baap, Beta, Beti, Behen,Biwi, Mamata, Aanchal, Pyaar, Aansoo, Saugandh, Shakti, and Qasam. Additionally, Durga and Santoshi Maa were also made. Almost 30 films about Maa at one place in the index book. I did not try other letters of the alphabet to see more possible films with the word maa – like Naani Maa, Dadi Maa, Meri Maa, Teri Maa, Apni Maa, Uski Maa etc !

Today’s song is from the film Panna Dai-1945.
The film was based on a story of Loyalty and glorious sacrifice, having a special place in Indian History. I wonder how the Producer selected the story of Indian sacrifice, when the trend was to make films on the falsely glorified bravery and good qualities of Mughal Kings ! It is a sad reflection that the choice mostly went in favour of the laurels of Mughals and the invaders of India rather than the builders and protectors of India. The ratio of Historical films was perhaps 70:30, in favour of the Mughals and other outsiders, compared to India’s own Heroes. Regional films from Maharashtra, Andhra, Tamilnadu, Karnatak, Orissa and Bengal were much better than the Hindi films on this count.
