Sometimes the temptation to write an article about an artist is to start with a sampler of the fabulous, memorable songs by him/her, to represent the variety, the flavor and the endearing memories that artist has created as a legacy and a treasure presented for generations to enjoy. But when one is writing about an artist of the stature of Rafi, or Lata, or Naushad, giving even an extended sampler for such artists is like lighting a lamp in bright sunlight (literally ‘suraj ko diya dikhana’).
