Here is a song from a movie called “Basant” (1960). It is a typical O P Nayyar song with his characteristic music. Asha Bhonsle sings this song. It is picturised on Nutan and another lady whom I am unable to identify. Both of course share the voice of Asha Bhonsle, when it comes to lip syncing this song.

Salim and Anarkali have been a favourite topic of Bollywood movies in 1950s and 1960s. In 1950s, there was in fact a movie called “Anarkali” (1953) which was a musical blockbuster. It had Pradeep Kumar and Bina Rai in the roles of Salim and Anarkali respectively. In 1960, “Mughal e Azam” was produced, where Dilip Kumar and Madhubala played these roles. This movie was just as big a musical blockbuster as “Anarkali” (1953).

“Bewaqoof” (1960), as the name suggests, was a comedy movie which unfortunately has been forgotten with time. This movie had Kishore Kumar and I S Johar as lead actors cum comedians. Mala Sinha was also there in this movie.

Bollywood romantic songs are reputed to be sung while running around trees. But how do the hero and heroine reach there in the first place ? In case they are rich, they have a car to reach there, but there is nothing romantic in that. It is far more romantic when the hero is driving a motor bike and the lady seated behind is clinging on to him with her arms strategically placed on hero’s body.
