Aadmi ki talaash
———————————–
abhi mara nahin zindaa hai aadmi shaayad
yahin kahin use dhoondho yahin kahin hogaa
badan ki andhi guphaa mein chhupa hua hogaa
badha ke haathh
har ek raushni ko gul kar do
hawaayen tez hain jhande lapet kar rakh do
jo ho sake to unn aankhon pe pattiyan kas do
na koyi paaon ki aahat
na saanson ki awaaz
daraa huaa hai woh
kuchh aur bhi na dar jaaye
badan ki andhhi guphaa se na kuchh kar jaaye
yahin kahin use dhoondho
wo aaj sadiyon baad
udaas udaas hai
khaamosh hai
akelaa hai
na jaane kab koyi pasli phadak utthe us ki
yahin kahin use dhoondho yahin kahin hogaa
barh anaho to use phir libaas pehnaa do
andheri aankhon mein sooraj ki aag dehkaa do
bahut badi hai yeh basti kahin bhi dafnaa do
abhi maraa nahin
zinda hai aadmi shaayad

Today 19th August 2020 is the first ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ (18th February 1927- 19th August 2019) of Music Director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab, whom we fondly know as Khayyam Saab.
On this occasion here is a song from the 1981 movie ‘Dil-E-Naadaan’ where the music for the movie was composed by Khayyam Saab. He had given beautiful melodies like ‘Chaandni raat mein ek baar tujhe dekha hai’, ‘Tera ishq hai meri zindagi’ etc. in this movie.

Hullo Atuldom
31st July, was that date in the monsoon of 1980, when the favourite singer of an entire generation left this world without any warning. There are anecdotes about the happenings of that date which keep surfacing now and then. We have heard that he was recording for Laxmikant -Pyarelal that day, a duet with Lata Mangeshkar, and was asked to stay back to record a songlet (if there is such a word) which was to play at the end of the movie and the words of that:
Tere aane ki aas hai dost
shaam phir kyun udhaas hai dost
mehki mehki phiza yeh kehti hain
tu kahin aas paas hai dost
tu kahin aas paas hain dost
Seem like written for remembering this legend called Mohammad Rafi.

Hullo Atuldom
“Waqt Ki Deewaar” is a 1981 release. It had Neetu Singh, Sulakshana Pandit, Jeetendra, Pran, Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Satyen Kappu, Paintal, Preeti Ganguly etc.
There was one other important actor in the cast. An actor who didn’t have a ‘set image’ in Bollywood. He could fit into any role he signed up for. He has played father, father-in-law, boyfriend, etc to Jaya (Bachchan) Bhadhuri. We are talking of Sanjeev Kumar here. Born Harihar Jethalal Jhariwala in 1938, he made his debut in 1960 with a small role in “Hum Hindustani”. His first film as a protagonist was “Nishaan” which came in 1965. On the road to becoming an actor-star who could be banked upon to play any character that he was given, we have seen him play Dilip Kumar’s brother in the 1968 released “Sanghursh” and friend to Shammi Kapoor in “Sachchaai” (1969).

I would prefer to stop counting the numbers, and rather go by the impressions in the memory. Well, it sounds so unbelievable that Nitin Mukesh turns 70 today. It seems like just a little while ago that we heard him sing for the first time in ‘Mera Naam Joker’ (1970). It was actually an unlisted song, in English. A song of good wishes and greetings – “Wish Me Luck”.
Then in 1981, when the song “Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi” from the film ‘Kranti’ was doing the rounds of popularity, my first impression on hearing this voice was – how come, was this song recorded earlier? The voice sounds so close to the voice of Mukesh, his father. Well yes, the voice is distinct, if one is listening carefully. But it also has an unmistakable shade of Mukesh’s voice.

She was born in Mumbai, raised in Lucknow and Canberra (Australia), grew up in Pune, did some theatre course in Paris, spent a considerable time in Delhi and now she spends time commuting between Mumbai and her ancestral home in Pune. She has worked through almost all the segments of mulit-media – a radio announcer, television producer, documentary film maker, Hindi film writer-director, author and some more. She is not shy of mincing words about those personalities even of high statures who have one time or the other rubbed her in a wrong way. She is Sai Paranjpye (born on March 19, 1938). It is interesting to note the background of family as she seems to have inherited some genes from them.
