R. D. Burman – 27th Death Anniversary on 04.01.2021
———————————————————————-
Summer vacation (1981):

I have just now checked the release date of Rocky 1981 is 8th May, 1981. So someday after 8th May, that year I have seen this movie at Belgaum in a theatre, called ‘Roopali”. Most of our local cousins, and some of their cousins were all collected at my elder uncle(Mamu)’s place at Belgaum. So many people of different age group were there, so lunch was a hotch-potch hurried affair. There was a railway crossing involved between the house and the theatre. A cousin was sent ahead on bicycle to get the tickets from the counter, as a new movie’s first show was likely to get houseful. By the time we all reached the theatre in batches of two’s and three, walking all the way, the boy had gotten the tickets. Rest of it is a blur, I remember only snatches of films scenes, story is all forgotten. Songs were quite popular and all were good quality songs. They were heard over the years, so remembering them is no problem.

So we are at it again. For the 161st time in the blog ! We arrive at post number 16100 in the blog with this writeup !

I have mentioned it in the past that we no longer look forward to these century posts with the same eagerness as in the past. This applies not only to blog centuries but also to the centuries of artists. At this moment, a good number of artists are into their ninetees. I propose to take them all up to their respective centuries after we are done with this blog century.

This post too takes up one such case. The artists in questions are Shankar Jaikishan. If some artists are in their 90s, then there is one set of artists who are in their 990s- 999 to be precise. This post sees them break into the four figure mark. We have had singers (four) and lyricists (three) who are in four figures in the blog. Shankar Jaikishan music director duo join them today and become the first music directors to reach 1000 songs in the blog.

Hullo Atuldom

This post sees the 20th November 1981 released “Gehra Zakhm” (as written in the titles of the movie) making its debut on the blog.

It is possible that the success of “Dada” (1979) prompted the casting of Amjad Khan in a pivotal role in this, since in that period he was known more for his negative characters. Vinod Mehra was the hero -just as in “Dada”. Ranjeeta Kaur, Kadar Khan, Sheetal, Jagdeep, Satyen kappu, Om Shivpuri etc formed the rest of the cast. Master Mayur played the young Vinod Mehra and Master Titoo played Amjad Khan’s childhood. Master Ravi plays the child who is rescued by Amjad Khan from Kadar Khan’s goonda and restored to his mother with some heavy duty dialogues to the effect that “maa se badhkar koi cheez nahi”. Jagdeep is Vinod Mehra’s (Vijay) friend who keeps urging the educated unemployed Vijay to live honestly and stop coming up with get-rich schemes.

Aadmi ki talaash
———————————–

abhi mara nahin zindaa hai aadmi shaayad
yahin kahin use dhoondho yahin kahin hogaa
badan ki andhi guphaa mein chhupa hua hogaa
badha ke haathh
har ek raushni ko gul kar do
hawaayen tez hain jhande lapet kar rakh do
jo ho sake to unn aankhon pe pattiyan kas do
na koyi paaon ki aahat
na saanson ki awaaz
daraa huaa hai woh
kuchh aur bhi na dar jaaye
badan ki andhhi guphaa se na kuchh kar jaaye
yahin kahin use dhoondho
wo aaj sadiyon baad
udaas udaas hai
khaamosh hai
akelaa hai
na jaane kab koyi pasli phadak utthe us ki
yahin kahin use dhoondho yahin kahin hogaa
barh anaho to use phir libaas pehnaa do
andheri aankhon mein sooraj ki aag dehkaa do
bahut badi hai yeh basti kahin bhi dafnaa do
abhi maraa nahin
zinda hai aadmi shaayad

Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, one half of the music director Laxmikant-Pyarelal was born on 03/09/1940. So that makes this 80th Birthday of the one of the most proficient, successful and talented musicians of the golden era of hindi film music. Today 19th August 2020 is the first ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ (18th February 1927- 19th August 2019) of Music Director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab, whom we fondly know as Khayyam Saab.

On this occasion here is a song from the 1981 movie ‘Dil-E-Naadaan’ where the music for the movie was composed by Khayyam Saab. He had given beautiful melodies like ‘Chaandni raat mein ek baar tujhe dekha hai’, ‘Tera ishq hai meri zindagi’ etc. in this movie.
