I am not much aware about the movies and songs of 1990s and later. So when it comes to discussing the movies and songs from these movies, I am in unfamiliar territory. When I needs to discuss songs sung by Jagjit Singh (8 feb 1941-10 oct 2011), I need the help of those regulars who are failiar with such movies and their music in which Jagjit Singh figured. I am extremely thankful to Prakashchandra who promptly sent me the lyrics of a few songs (as well as details about these songs and their movies).

Bollywood music touched its nadir in 1980s when “Disco” music took over the music scene. The fact that Bappi Lahiri and Mithun da were the biggest beneficiary of that era says it all. Bappi Lahiri (though capable of creating great music) preferred to create forgettable music. Mithun da indulded in so called disco “densing”, which, if you watched closely, bore little resemblence to actual “densing”. “Densing”, incidentally was how Mithun da pronounced “dancing”.

“1942, A love story” (1993) was a movie where the music saved the day for the movie. The songs of this movie were reminishent of 1960s where music tended to be a major attraction of movies.

I can watch Bollywood songs any time, but ask me to watch a Bollywood movie containing the same songs and I develop cold feet. I find that the songs are often the only redeeming part of many movies.

“Aao Pyaar Karen” (1994) was the debut movie of Aadesh Srivastava as a music director, and he certainly caught the attention of people with his music in this movie.

This movie “Aao Pyaar Karen” (1994) is a recent movie by the standards of this blog. This movie had a couple of nice songs composed by debutant music director Aadesh Srivastava.
