Today’s song is an ‘all female qawwaali song’ from the 1964 movie ‘Jaadui Angoothi’.
So far, I have been presenting qawwaalis from the decade of seventies on the blog. For a change today, I am presenting this one from the decade of sixties. In fact, today’s song was lying with me since long and Initially I sent only the audio of this song (the only vailable version at that time). But now the movie as well as the video of this songs has become available online.

Today 8th September is eighty-seventh birth anniversary (born on 8th September’1933) of Asha Bhonsle. On this occasion as we wish her a very ‘happy birthday’ today and a healthy and peaceful life ahead, we are also going to enjoy a song sung by her.
This melodious song is from a lesser known movie ‘Jaadui Angoothhi-1964’.
‘Jaadui Angoothhi-1964’ alias ‘Magic Ring’ was directed by A.M. Khan for ‘A.M. Khan Productions, Bombay’. It had Chitra, Manhar Desai, Sheri, Krishnakumari, S.K. Shyam, Anil Kashmiri, Jilani, Uma Khosla, Violet, Ameerbai Karnataki, Sujata, Saroj, Sabina, Balwant Sharma, Kallan, Bagla, Chaman, Deva Kumari, Kanta Kumari and Polsan and others.

22nd August (yesterday) was the remembrance day of the exceptional, yet unsung music director – Ram Prasad Sharma. He had passed away this day in 1995. May be not easily identifiable by himself, he is probably known more through his sons. His four sons have all been well known musicians and instrumentalists, and all have been connected with the film industry. Two of them are also famous as music directors – Pyaarelal ji, of the Laxmikant Pyaarelal duo, and Ganesh.

These uplifiting lines are from the pen of Saraswati Kumar Deepak. The poetry composed sometimes in the early 1950s, was presented as a song in the 1953 film ‘Naya Raasta’. Saraswati Kumar Deepak is a song writer who has been confined to mythological and religious fare for most of his career. Active in the Hindi cinema since 1943, his songs can be heard in films all the way to the end of 1970s.
Remembering Saraswati Kumar Deepak today (8th July) on the anniversary of his passing away. And incidentally, yesterday (7th July) was his birth anniversary also.

Yes, we know, and we realize it. But still, it does seem that this साथ was not even justified as दो पल or even one. खो जाने वाली मंज़िल, कुछ बहुत ही जल्दी आ गई. . .

Skipping the letters ‘ढ’ and ‘ण’ –
‘ढ’ – very few songs starting with this letter – either all used, or not applicable to this series.
‘ण’ does not have any song starting with this letter. Made a very interesting discovery as I browsed the Hindi dictionary for words starting with ‘ण’. There is only one word that starts with this letter. More interestingly, the letter itself has uses as a monosyllabic word, and has at least 10 meanings associated. Wow.
So we come to the letter ‘प’ today. And here is a wonderfully lovely song to go with it.

“O Tera Kya Kehnaa”(1959) was produced by N H Baria and A Khaliq and directed by K Parvez for Y T U Baria Films, Bombay.
This “social” movie had Mehmood, Chitra, Kammo, Helen, Sheikh, Bhagwan, Renu Makad, Shaam Kumar, Babu Raje, Manohar Kamat, Munshi Munaqqa, Kathana, Haneef, Fazlu, Bagla, Maqbool, Kallan etc in it.

Missing Films of 1960s – 29

With this post, I introduce another missing film from the 1960s. The film is ‘Khufia Mahal’ from 1964. As I checked out the songs of this film, I find some very lovable compositions. And why not. The music is from the mind of that one another unsung genius of that era – Pardesi. With a career that was limited to just four films, one sees him active from 1960 to 1972. And after that, lost in the dusks of anonymity. Nothing much more is available in terms of information, other than the 30+ songs he has created, some of which are real gems.

The movie had Feroze Khan,Chitra,Jeevankala, Indira, Baby Vidya Rani, Manorama, Ratnamala, Sulochana Chatterjee, Shah Agha, Sunder, Majnoo, Shakeel Noomani, Raj Adeeb, Mintobai, Gani, Mohammed Ali, Geeta, Paro, Julian, B.M.Vyas, Anthny, Bismilla, Mithoo miyaa etc in it.
