There have been various songs on Shaadi and the various rituals connected to it. For example a very good bidaai song is “Chal ri sajni ab kya soche” from “Bambai Ka Babu”. Then there are songs of mehndi; in recent times a lot of Yash Chopra movies had them (do we need to enumerate them here). There are also songs where the sister is teased by a younger sibling (Sun Sun Sun Didi from Khoobsurat) or a jiji Jija song as in “Hum Aapke hain Kaun.” Then there is the iconic song in Chaudvin Ka chand “Mera Yaar bana hai dulha” by Mohd Rafi which has stood the test of time.

The film Angoor (1982) has only three songs and thus this is the last song to appear from this film. This song has not only similar opening lines like C. H. Atma’s preetam aan milo (also sung by Geeta Dutt in Mr. & Mrs. 55 , but also shares its tune. Dismissing this version as a parody, however, would be underrating it.

Hi all
After long I found time to put my thoughts down.
So I was thinking of a few movies which used the same story idea like for example ” Khatta Meetha” (1978) and “Hamare tumhare” (1979). Both were inspired by the 1968 Lucille Ball -Henry Fonda movie “Yours Mine And Ours”. Then in the year 2002 we had a similar situation where Rajkumar Santoshi decided to make “The Legend Of Bhagat Singh” and Dharamendra made “23rd March 1933”. And we all know the source of inspiration for these movies. And this list will include other movies too- that is same story idea and releasing around the same time. (My Peevesie reminds me that we had 2 other movies that year with the Bhagat Singh story.)

Today (1 may 2013) is the 94th birth anniversary of Manna Dey. Radio/ TV stations, sites etc must be celebrating this occasion with some of his songs. It is easy for most of them. All they have to do is discuss some of the well known Manna Dey songs from movies like “Zanjeer”, “Upkaar”, “Dil Hi To Hai”, “Anand”, “Mera Naam Joker” etc and that is all. The same well known songs can be used on other similar occasions as well.

I had mentioned that I was temporarily at a place where internet and for that matter even electricity was not guaranteed. Now,after pointing the fact out to the powers be, I find that the things are much better. Electricity is avaialble, because the generator set is being switched on in case of no electicity while earlier, people were too lazy to switch on the gen set, which is an essential item in these parts.

“Barsaat Ki Raat” (1964) was a movie that only had qawwalis in it, and the movie, riding on these qawwalis went to to become an all time hit movie. Inspired by the success of this movie, a B grade movie maker tried to emulate the movie by making another movie on the same theme. This movie maker in fact went one step ahead and named his movie “Qawwali ki raat”! What an inspired title ! 🙂

The movie “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960) was a movie that was a qawwali bonanza as this movie consisted mainly of one awesome qawwali following other. After the huge success of this movie, other movie makers tried to ape its success formula by coming with movies with similar theme. One of these movies was called “Qawwali Ki Raat” (1964) thus leaving no ambiguity about the fact that it was inspired from “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960).
