Unlike the previous five Rakhi festivals that this blog has seen, the date of the festival this year has been in some doubt. Some people believe that it is today (viz 20 august 2013), while others feel that it is on 21 august 2013. And that leaves me in a dilemma as to when to discuss the Rakhi songs on this occasion.

“Devdas” (1955) was produced and directed by Bimal Roy. The movie was based on Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name. A movie on this novel was made in 1935 with K L Saigal in the title role and that movie ended up being a classic.
