Mehmood had given R D Burman his first break as an independent music director in “Chhote Nawaab” (1962). Ironically, R D Burman was unable to get any other assignment as an independent music director after that. He continued to work as an assistant to his father. Others may not have cared to look at R D Burman, but Mehmood once again reposed his faith on R D Burman as the music director for his movie called “Bhoot Bangla” (1965). Not just that, he gave R D Burman an important acting role too in this movie !

“Jee Chaahta Hai” (1964) is a movie starring Joy Mukherji, Rashree, Shyama, Rajendranath, Nazir Hussain,Jeewan etc. I have not seen the movie so I often try to guess the story of the movie from the picturisation of the song, and my conclusions thus drawn about the movie are often quite off the mark. 😀

This selection is from the 1964 Gemini production Zindagi. This film had a very good star line up, as in Rajendra Kumar, Rajkumar, Vijayantimala, Prithviraj Kapoor, Lila Chitnis, Mehmood, Jayant, Kanhaiyalal, Jeevan, Dhoomal, Helen, Mumtaz Begum, Heeralal, and Master Shahid. Ramanand Sagar, the director of this film, has been active in the Hindi cinema as a story and dialogue writer since the early 1950s. He directed his first film in 1953 (Mehmaan), but it was in 1960 that he really established himself as a director with the film Ghunghat. This was followed by Zindagi (1964) and Aarzoo (1965). He then established Sagar Arts International, his own production house an went on to produce and direct such famous hits like Aankhen (1968), Geet (1970), Lalkar (1972), Charas (1976), Prem Bandhan (1979) etc. Beyond all the film world creations, Ramanand Sagar is more famous for the TV serial Ramayan, which he created in 1987, whose success established him as a household name all over India.

“Nayaa Kaanoon” (1965) was a movie starring an over the hill Bharat Bhushan with Vyjyanti Mala. This movie was a box office disasater.
As a result, the songs of this movie suffered. So much so that few people are aware of these songs. It is a pity because these songs are so nice to listen to, and they would have done well had the movie done better.

I came across this song a few hours ago. And I wondered where this song was hiding all these days from my view.
This is a nice club/part dance song from “Parvarish” (1958). The song is sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and the delightful music is composed by Dattaram.
