“Sahaara”(1958) was produced by Kuldeep Saigal and directed by Lekhraj Bhakri for Tasveeristan. The movie had Meena Kumari, M.Rajan, Kuldip Kaur, Kanhaiya Lal, Badri Prasad, Leela Misra, Niranjan Sharma, Sundar, Daisy Irani, Sagar, Rirkoo, Shakeel Numani, Khanna, Black & White, Kardar, Amir Bano, Gulab, Chanda Bai, Kanchan Mala, Sadhna, Maya Das, Kishan, Shukla, Brahm Bhardwaj etc in it. This movie also had Kammo in a guest appearance. Manoj aka Manoj Kumar was introduced with this movie.

Many of the music directors of the the Golden era and the pre- golden era were competent singers as well. They sang mostly in their own films, but sometimes they also sang under the batons of other music directors. Today’s song, a qawwaali from “Samrat”(1954), is one such song, where C Ramchandra sings for Hemant Kumar. Rafi and chorus accompany C Ramchandra in this song.

Hullo atulites
I just realised that today (24 november 2016) is the birthday of another 70s/80s actor, producer director. Yes I am talking of the man who made the common man or the boy-next-door feel like a hero- Amol Palekar. I can’t believe he turns 73 today. it seems like yesterday that we saw him in Chitchor, Rajnigandha and Choti Si Baat. It seems like only recently that we saw him searching for a house with Zarina Wahaab and singing “Do deewane shahar main”, or desparately trying to convince his mom about Tina Munim being the right girl for him to get Married to (Baaton Baaton Mein). Then one fine day we saw him as a villian in Vinod Chpora’s ” Khamosh”. With his clean image one would have never guessed that he was the serial killer in that movie. In between all this we also saw him playing a husband to Parveen Babi (Rang Birangi) where he is tutored by Deven Verma about how to bring back the romance in his married life.
