Today (18 august 2016) is the full moon day (poornima). It is on this day that Indian month of Saawan (Shrawan)comes to an end and the month of Bhaadon (Bhadrapad) begins. The singinficance of this full moon day is that it is celebrated in India as Rakshabandhan day.

Kishore Kumar was around in the Hindi movie playback scene for two decades from 1948 to 1968 but all these while he was on the fringes. But a combination of many circumstances, that are well chronicled, ensured that changes of epic proportions took place in the Hindi movies schemes of things in late 1960s. Whe the commotion was over and things settled down, the old order had changed giving way to the new. The old timers (heroes, singers, music directors) suddenly found themselves upstaged and evicted from the scene in the new order.

What kinds of songs does one expect in a movie titled “Truck Driver” ? From the title, one would expect the movie to be a B grade movie and the songs to be of chaalu variety. As it turns out, the movie is indeed a B grade movie which I was not even aware of. This is a 1970 movie and it had Dev Kumar and Indrani Mukherji in lead roles.

Rajesh Khanna made his debut in “Aakhri Khat” (1966). This was a black and white movie, and this movie could well be described as a classic. This must be one of the few movies that could be called a movie with an original and different plot. At least I hope that this movie is an original and not inspired by some other movie.
