Today, 29th December 2025 is the eighty-third birth anniversary of Rajesh Khanna.
He needs no introduction to the Hindi Cinema lovers of yesteryears and those who have been following and studying the History of Hindi Cinema and love Hindi Cinema and its music. In fact, he is a well known and well admired actor even among the generation who came after Rajesh Khanna era was over.
Today on the occasion of the eighty-third birth anniversary of Rajesh Khanna I am presenting a song from the 1984 movie ‘Paapi Pet Ka Sawaal Hai’. I had earlier presented a song from this movie on this blog.

#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
———————————————————————
Today 27th November 2025 is the seventy-third birth anniversary of Composer Singer Bappi Lahiri (27.11.1952-15.02.2022). On this occasion as a tribute to him I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Sinhaasan-1986’.
I got to listen to this song earlier this year when I was still at Vadodara and was travelling from the city to my workplace around 47 kms from the city. I had earlier presented filmography of Bappi Lahiri for his Hindi Films from the 1970s and also for few years of the 1980s. However I did not include it in my series of Bappi Lahiri songs where I had presented songs that are part of my memory till 1985, because this song did not fall in that category.
Today’s movie ‘Sinhaasan-1986’ was directed by Krishna who also produced it for ‘Padmalaya Studio, Madras’. So this is one of those movies of actor Jeetendra where he was a part of many films coming from the southern part of the country. Bappi Lahiri too was the regular music composer for such films. I have not watched this movie, so can’t say much about it. However it seems to be a ‘fantasy’ movie. The cast of this movie has Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Pran, Kader Khan, Mandakini, Shakti Kapoor, Bharat Bhooshan, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Amjad Khan, Sujit Kumar, Gulshan Grover, Gurbachan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Radha and others.

Rajesh Khanna – The Phenomenon – 13
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –- – –
‘1983’ to ‘1988’ was the ‘peak time’ for me for watching Rajesh Khanna movies. From ‘1983-1985’ I was studying (? 🙂 ) in 11th-12th standard and staying at Akola with my grandparents. There was our group of friends who shared common interests of cricket and Kaka. Couple of my friends in this group were bigger fans of Kaka than me.Following the success of ‘Avtaar’ and ‘Souten’, earlier movies of Rajesh Khanna were also re released in theatres, and we used to watch them in theatres.

‘Sindoor’ (1987) was a movie produced by A Krishnamurti & directed by K Ravi Shankar. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor, Jaya Prada, Govinda, Neelam, Kadar Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Baby Guddu (the pet child actor of those times), AK Hangal, Prem Chopra (if my memory is correct Prem Chopra was in a double role), & Ramesh Deo. Today (4 August 2020) is the 91st birth anniversary of Kishore Kumar (4 August 1929- 13 october 1987). And incidentally, today is the 4400th day for the blog !
Three articles from three regulars discussing Kishore Kumar have already appeared on the blog today. It is interesting to note that all the three regulars decided to discuss three songs from the decade of 1980s.
The golden era of HFM, which began in 1949, ended in 1980. People who lived through the golden era can notice a palpable lack of overall quality in HFM after 1980. There were quite a few reasons for that. I have given this matter some thought and I have come up with some interesting observations. I will use those observations some other time in some other article. Here I will mention it in brief that the golden era of HFM began when Indian classical base (melody based) was wedded with western classical base (symphony based). This marriage, which gave us the best of both the worlds, got dissolved in 1980. Western symphony was replaced by western cacophony while lyrics of the songs were dispensed with.
