Today, we are on track to reach the 10K target. And yes, of course, we must also proclaim the 6th anniversary of this blog. Way back in 2008, this day is the day that Atul made a small start with a song from the film ‘Anokhi Raat’. As Sadanand ji has written in his post yesterday,
gair saath aate gaye aur kaarwaan bantaa gaya

The series is moving very slow, and you must be thinking that I may have forgotten about it. Rest assured, I have not. These songs and recordings are one of a kind, and I will most certainly post the complete set of ten such surprising items that have been hidden away from the minds and memory of the listeners, for decades.

There were at least two movies called “Sultana Daaku”. One was produced in 1956 and another in 1972.
Kaifi Azmi (14 january 1919- 10 may 2002), whose 12th death anniversary falls today (10 may 2014) was the lyricist in both these movies. He shared the duty of lyrics writing with three other lyricists in “Sultana Daaku” (1956) whereas he was the only lyricist for “Sultaana Daaku” (1972).

Genius of Jaidev
===========
In 1973 a producer named Ramesh Khosla was making a film, but the production was shelved due to his death. Jaidev had recorded few songs of Lata and Mukesh for that film. After a long long time, Robin Khosla, son of Ramesh, wrote a story line on Kashmir issue for a film called ‘Chand Grahan’, and accommodated those unreleased songs in the film. We do not know whether the film on that sensitive subject was ever made, passed censors and even released, but in 1997 the audio of this movie songs were finally released. It was 24 years after the demise of Mukesh and 10 years after the death of Jaidev, that these melodious songs saw the light of the day. Two of the Mukesh songs are already covered on this Blog. The presentation today, is one of the two Lata songs, from that film. Arun ji may shed some light on the star cast and some trivia about the film.

Nainon se naina milaa ke : Song No. 4
——————————————
Song no. 4 in this series is again a duet, but this time it is Jagjit Kaur who is singing with Rafi. This is from the film ‘ Mera Bhai Mera Dushman ‘ (1967). I had never heard of this film. The lyrics are written by Kaifi Azmi and the composer is Khaiyyam. Now, about them I have definitely heard. 🙂

BAHU BETI (1952) seems to be an obscure film which was produced under the banner of Kesar Films and directed by C L Dheer. The main cast included Geeta Bali and Amarnath in the lead roles with Vijaylaxmi, Jaswant, Leela Mishra, Rashid Khan etc in the supporting roles. There are 8 songs in the film written by Kaifi Azmi (7) and Vishwamitra Adil (1) which were set to music by S D Batish. Incidentally, the film’s director C L Dheer was the father of TV and film actor Pankaj Dheer (‘Karna’ of Mahabharat) and the grandfather of film actor Nikitin Dheer who has acted in films like ‘Jodha Akbar’ (2008) and ‘Chennai Express’ (2013).

Though “Shaitaan Mujrim” (1980) is a movie of recent vintage by the standards of this blog, little information is available about this movie. From the title, it appears to be a C grade horror movie of the kind that generally struggled to get released and failed miserably at the box office. It appears that this movie had Rakesh Khanna, Jyoti Matwankar, Dev Kumar, Raza Murad, Mohan Choti, Madan Puri, Seema Kapoor etc in it.
