Not all Hindi movies are made by movie makers with deep pockets. There are people who dream of making movies even if they do not have the financial muscle for that. They would look for out of work artists and sign them for free or a pittance, and ask them to convince other out of work artists for free too.

“Chaalis Din” (1959) is an obscure B grade movie that had Premnath, Shakila,Nishi etc in it. According’s to Atul’s axiom,if a movie is an obscure B grade movie, it must have absolutely a grade music in it. 🙂 So here is one such song from this movie .

I had mentioned that I was temporarily at a place where internet and for that matter even electricity was not guaranteed. Now,after pointing the fact out to the powers be, I find that the things are much better. Electricity is avaialble, because the generator set is being switched on in case of no electicity while earlier, people were too lazy to switch on the gen set, which is an essential item in these parts.

“Naqli Nawaab” (1962) is a movie starring Manoj Kumar and Shakila. The movie itself may not be any great shakes and even its music may have been forgotten with time, but the music of this movie is quite wonderful to listen to, as I have discovered recently.

“Chhoti Bahu” (1971) is a movie that had Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in it. I have not seen this movie so I have no idea about the story of this movie, though the title indicated that the movie may have something to do with ladies making sacrifices for the family honour etc.

I became aware of the movie “Heer Ranjha” (1970) in 1974, while going through movie magazines, which incidentally were supposed to be out of bounds for school kids barely in their teens. 🙂 But I was a kid who loved reading all kinds of publications, including screenplays of movies too. Yes, those days screenplays of movies used to get published too. I read screenplays of “Bobby” (1973) and “Aasheerwaad” (1968). I never watched these movies and I never thought that I missed anything by not watching them, that is how vivid the screenplays used to be.

“Hanste Zakhm” (1973) was, not surprisingly (in hindsight) , a commercial disaster. Chetan Anand, the maker of this movie, was so enamoured of Priya Rajwansh that she was the heroine of all his movies, despite her wooden face. No doubt she tried hard, as did others, to perform to the best of their abilities, but this movie had other weak points viz confused storyline, etc.
