Hullo Atuldom

A long time ago, sometime in my childhood, there used to be an ad that used to start with “a small & happy family”. The family is shown to be sitting and enjoying quality, family time when suddenly there is a problem in the form of a flickering TUBE-LIGHT. Basically it was an ad for some brand of TUBE-LIGHTS that we used to see in cinema halls. From that ad, I learnt that small things effect smooth functioning of families.

The song in this post is a Non-Film Song, though the name of this movie appears in Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-962) under the movies that were not released. It was not an entire film but just a documentary made under the banner of Farida Films. Te foot note on this page for this ‘film’ mentions that Iqbal Qureshi, the composer of the song confirmed that it was just a non film song giving the story of China’s attack on India in the year 1962.

In this article, I have taken up for discussion the tragic story of the first super star of the Marathi stage and films whom I had followed during his rise in Marathi stage and films in my younger days. He was stated to be the highest paid actor – both for stage and films – during 1960s and 70s. A series of his Marathi stage plays, and films brought him stardom and a massive fan following. He also worked in two major Hindi films as second lead actor during his period of stardom. However, he could not handle his sudden adulations and glamour. The result was that he became arrogant, unprofessional and finally alcoholic. In 1983 onwards after reforming himself, his stage career was on the pick up when he suddenly passed away. The name of that actor was Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar.
