Lata Mangeshkar has sung with G M Durrani only 11 songs, six of them are light-hearted, teasing or ‘sawaal-jawaab’ (question-answer) type. Here is one of such songs ‘ hello mister dil betaab ho kiske liye’ from the film ANAND BHAWAN (1953) sung by them. The star cast included Manhar Desai, Nigar Sultana, Trilok Kapoor, Durga Khote, Tiwari etc. The film had eight songs of which four each were written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Noor Lucknawi. The songs were composed by Vasant Desai. One song from the film has been covered in the blog. The song under discussion was written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan.

An old adage – they say that the real geniuses leave early. Many an instance are scattered all over the history timeline. Gosh, she was still 4 months short of her 40th birthday when she gave up her resistance to the personal tragedies and tribulations, making her way out of the miserable labyrinths of control and manipulations that she was subjected to most of her life. Ah but, what a color her own life, rubbed on to her on screen persona, as she moved from one perfection to the next in the tragic milieu of tangled relationships and human miseries. A performer too young, too vivacious, to be baptized as the Tragedy Queen. And the vicious circle moved from real life to screen and back, so many times over, that her cup of life proved to be diminutive, unable to hold all the sorrows that the world put in it.

This is the Rafi-Asha duet recorded for Neela Akash(1965) but not used in the movie. It is a shame that such a song could not find place in the movie and was relegated to anonymity. Some might say that the other songs used in the film were better than this so this was edged out. But I do not agree.

Here comes a party song, performed by Mehmood in the film “Neela Aakash”” (1965). All songs of this movie are marvellous, including the one removed/unused from the film. I will come to that song in the next post.

Here is a Rail song from the film ‘Aap ki Parchhaiyyan’ (1964). It is a Rafi solo written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and composed by Madan Mohan. Dharmendra is travelling in a train, going home to his parents, it would appear.

“Nawab Sirazudaula” (1967) was a Lok Bharti Chitra Production. It was directed by Ramchandra Thakur. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Kalpana, Manhar Desai, Moti Sagar, Daisy Irani, B. M. Vyas, Naseem, Johnny Walker, Murad etc in it.
