I became aware of “Puraskaar” (1970) after Memsaab reviewed this movie in her blog. It turns out that the movie is a treasure of great songs. I wonder how I was not aware of this movie when it was released in 1970s, seeing that this movie had music by R D Burman and I, like most music lovers was a big fan of R D Burman’s music.

“Ye Raat Phir Na Aayegi” (1966) was a Sri Krishna Films presentation. It was directed by Brij. The movie had Vishwajeet, Sharmila Tagore, Madhumati, Prithviraj Kapoor, Mumtaz, Asit Sen, B. M. Vyas, Helen, Sailesh Kumar etc in it.

A lovely and endearing song – a song that I encountered just today for the first time. Sometimes, well not only sometimes, but quite often, some of the songs by Asha Bhosle, give you a sudden surprise – oh OK, so it is Asha. On first hearing in passing, if one did not know the singer’s name, the mind would not easily pick out Asha ji’s name as the singer. Yes, a very soft, a very humble, and a very mellow composition.

“CID” (1956) as well as “CID 909” (1967) had music by the same music director, viz O P Nayyar. Unlike “CID” (1956), “CID 909” was a B grade movie though. It was a Bindu Kala Mandir Presentation, which was directed by Muhammad Hussai. The movie had up and coming B grade actors namely Feroz Khan and Mumtaz in lead roles, with Helen, Rajen Haksar, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ram Mohan, Rajen Kapoor, Tuntun, Bela Bose, B. Mehta also figuring in it.

The movie CID (1956) inspired quite a few copycat movies in the years to come. “Kahin Din Kahin Raat” (1968) was one such movie with a storyline similar to CID (1956).
