#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 130 # Aayegi zaroor chithhi mere naam ki #
——————————————-—-

Today’s song is from the ‘1974’ movie ‘Dulhan’. ‘Dulhan-1974’ is one of those movies which had made its debut in the initial months of this blog, on 02.11.2008 with its song ‘jaane chaman jaane bahaar’. But since then, this movie is waiting to see its second song on the blog. Today after ‘twelve years, five months, and three days (or 4537 days), we are going to listen to the second song from this movie.

I remember the today’s song was frequently heard on radio and loud-speakers in those days i.e., my childhood days 😊. And maybe then I was not aware which movie it was from. But I vaguely remember that I never liked this song then and in fact it was irritating for me whenever it was played on radio or around. However, I think that this song must be the most popular song from this movie. And I was thus surprised to note that this has not been posted on the blog until now.

The other song I am familiar from this movie is ‘Govinda aa Gopaalaa aa, mere rote nainaa poochhen’ which was also frequently played then. And in comparison, to the above two songs, the song jaane chaman jaane bahaar from ‘Dulhan-1974’ is a song I am less familiar with.

‘Dulhan-1974’ was directed by C.V. Rajendran for ‘Sujata International, Madras’. It had Ashok Kumar, Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Jamuna, Mehmood (in special appearance), Nazir Hussain, David, Agha, Paintal, Manorama, Mukesh, Vijay Kumar, Prem Kumar, Raghav, Bhagwan, Baby Doll, Leela, Munni, Asha, Shammi and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 19.10.1974.

This movie had five sound tracks including its ‘title-music’ as mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980). HFGK also mentions that one song from this movie i.e., ‘main teri dulhan tu dulha piyaa’ is given in two-parts on the LP record of this movie.

Anand Bakshi was the lyricist for this movie who had written all the songs for this movie. Music for this movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

As per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) this movie ‘Dulhan-1974’ had the following songs;

SNo Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Aayegi zaroor chithhi mere naam ki Lata Mangeshkar Being discussed today
02 Jaane chaman jaane bahaar Kishore Kumar 02.11.2008

04 Jai Hari Govind… Govinda Gopaala Lata Mangeshkar,Chorus
05 Title music

I have not watched this movie, so I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us listen to the today’s song now.

This song is lip synced on screen by Hema Malini while Jeetendra is also present there.
In the second part the mukhda of this song plays in the background and Ashok Kumar, Hema Malini, Nazir Hussain and many others are also seen in the picturization.

“Dulhan”(1958) is still eligible for Blog Ten year Challenge” ten years later today (29 august 2020). The movie had nine songs in it and five of them have been covered so far.

Here are these songs of “Dulhan”(1958) that have been covered so far:-

Song Posted On
Jiyaa sharmaaye nazar jhuki jaaye 07.08.2010
I love you Madam Multiple version song 29.08.2010
Mooliram aur bhindimal ka nikal gayaa hai deewaala 14.04.2012
Mere gore gore gaal 25.11.2018

Here is the sixth song from “Dulhan”(1958) to appear in the blog. The picturisation shows Nirupa Roy leaving Raj Kaumar, but then changes her mind. Some dialogue from Raj Kumar are followed by a few lines of Hemant Kumar after which it is all Asha Bhonsle. P L Santoshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

HFGK mentions this song as a female solo, and the audio of the song is indeed a female solo song in Asha Bhonsle’s voice, but we can see from the picturisation that the song begins with Hemant Kumar’s voice. Remark in HFGK mentions that this song was sung by Hemant Kumar in a prose form. We can see that the picturisation combines these two seemingly separate songs to form what looks like a duet song. Incidentally, no records were made of Hemant Kumar version and it is there only in the picturisation.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra while BTYC details were provided by Avinash Scrapwala.

“Dulhan”(1958) was produced by A A Nadiadwala and directed by V M Vyas for Pushpa Pictures, Bombay. This “social” movie had Nirupa Roy, Rajkumar, Bhagwan, Nanda, Jageerdaar, Sheila Kashmiri, Manorama, Agha, Jeewan, Indira Bansal, Munshi Munaqqa, Maqbool, Iqbal, Kanchan, Ansari, Moti (the dog) etc in it.

The movie had nine songs in it. Four songs from the movie have been covered in the blog.

Here is the fifth song from “Dulhan”(1958) to appear in the blog. This song is a duet sung by Shamshad Begam and Rafi. P L Santoshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

The song is sung in a rock and roll style (which was quite popular in India at that time. The song is picturised as a club dance song. One can see Bhagwan lip syncing in Rafi’s voice. I am unable to identify the lady who lip syncs in Shamshad Begam’s voice. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

With this song, the blog now has 4800 songs from the decade of 1950s (1951 to 1960), which is easily the most well represented decade in the blog.

Hindi movie songs cover lots of ground as far as depicting various human feelings as well as activities of Indians are concerned. But there are still a few regular activities that have been sadly underrepresented. For instance, there are hardly any songs for an activity as common as buying and selling of vegetables.

I can watch songs of a movie any number of times. On the other hand, I find watching the same movie a waste of my time. Perhaps I have become “mature” with time. As a sign of this “maturity”,I would rather spend three hours trying to get the lyrics of a song right than watch the movie containing this song which may take less time.:D

I had listened to this song quite often in Radio Ceylon “aaphi ke geet” programme , which was a farmaishi programme catering to listeners from Jhumri Tilaiyya and elsewhere. But I do not think this song became particularly popular in Binaca geetmala or with those plying records on loudspeakers during those days of 1974. In fact, I was not even aware which movie this song was from.
