“Air Mail” (1960) was an obscure C grade movie by now. This movie was directed by B J Patel under the banner of People’s pictures. The movie had Ranjan, Malini, Jyoti, Rajan Kapoor, Merajkar, Maruti etc in it.

One song from this movie has been discussed in the past.

Today (6 july 2013) is the eighth death anniversary of Sardul Kwatra. On this occasion, here is a song from “Air Mail” (1960). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sardul Kwatra.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to tell about the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap hone de jaani (Air Mail)(1961) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Sardul Kwatra
Chorus

Lyrics

Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani

haay haay haay
Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee

karti hai ye dhadkan ishaare
u u u
maange hain dil ne sahaare
u u u
das na le tujhko ye zulfen
u u u
pardesi mehman hamaare
dekh idhar
hai ye umar
dekh idhar
hai ye umar
khatre ki nishaani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani

haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee

kehte hain
sun ae hebbina
o o o o
chaahat na ho to kya jeena
o o o o
nazron ki lehren uthhi hain
o o o o
behne de dil ka safeena
o o o o
diruba sharmo haya
diruba sharmo haya
baaten hain puraani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani

haay haay haay
Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee

I did not know that Shaminder was a playback singer until I came across a duet song ‘ye shokh adaa mast nigaah’ from the film ‘Son Of Alibaba’ (1955) sung by him and Geeta Dutt. Curious to know about him, I checked in this blog and found that one duet song chaand sitaaron mein kaun bulaaye sung by him with Lata Mangehskar from the film ‘Pilpili Saheb’ (1954) has already been discussed. Not finding any information on him, I searched various websites but being an unknown name, he was not on Wikipedia. But I found some comments on YT from two of his relatives and a write up by a person who claims to know him personally. After reading these materials, I found that Shaminder’s journey to Hindi film industry was an interesting one if not a bizarre one who aspired to become a playback singer mainly to fulfil his obsession of singing a song with his idol Lata Mangeshkar. What a ‘khwaaish’ !

Today (24th december) is Rafi’s birthday so today we are discussing songs sung by Rafi in this blog.

Here is a song from “Mirza Saahibaan”(1957). I notice that I have discussed as many as six songs from a movie of the same name that was released in 1947 and which starred Trilok Kapoor and Noorjahaan, but only one song from “Mirza Saahibaan” (1957) which starred Trilok Kapoor’s nephew, someone known as Shammi Kapoor 🙂 and Shyama.

The comically titled “Pilpili Saahab”(1954) is a rare and obscure movie with equally rare and obscure songs in it. The movie was a Kwatra Films production and it was directed by H S Kwatra. The movie had actors like Sunder, Pran, Mehmood, Agha, Shyama, Lalita, Mumtaz, Rajan Kapoor etc in it.
