Four songs out of eleven from the 1971 film EK THI REETA are still to be covered. I am unable to locate a Sarla Kapoor song ‘main to usise karungi naina char’ and an English song ‘Mamma says I am nineteen’. So that leaves two Asha solos to be covered by me. After this one presented today the next one will follow soon if approved by Hari Ichchha.

Recently, on my request a collector friend of mine sent me four Asha’s song from 1971 film ‘Ek Thi Reeta’. Out of eleven songs from that film five are already covered in this musical blog. One by one, I will try to submit (Hari Ichchha permitting) these four Asha’s songs for posting starting from today. After that we will be short of two songs, which I still do not have.

There have been three movies titled “Sanskaar”, which were released in 1940, 1952 and 1958. The songs of these three movies are difficult to come by. Conventional wisdom suggests that songs of recent movies should be more easily available but the case is just the reverse here. Songs of “Sanskaar”(1940) and “Sanskaar”(1952) are more easily available than that of “Sanskaar”(1958). 🙂

Though the purpose of this post is to introduce and launch the posting of songs in a “new” film on the blog, this time the film is not from the Seventies, but it’s a film of the Fifties and I became aware of this film’s name when I was searching info for my earlier post where I shared a song from the 1979 film ‘Khaandan’.

This is a song from a Raj-Nargis film Bewafa-52 and it is sung by Talat Mahmood.

It is not very common that Talat sang for Raj Kapoor. Raj was convinced that only the voice of Mukesh suited him, so in all the films that he produced or directed, he used to try using Mukesh for his songs. However,as a true Professional, if he were to work for some other producer or under a different Director, he followed the policy of strict Non-interference. So, in such films, we see other singers giving playback to Raj Kapoor, depending on the choice of the producer or director. Talat sang a total of ten songs for Raj Kapoor in 4 films, as following-

THE VELVET MAGIC-TALAT DUETS……song No. 5
—————————————————
Surinder Kaur sings with Talat in this duet from film Shadi ki raat-50.

I have observed one thing that the fans of HFM are generally absolute diehards about their favourite singers. Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Saigal, Talat, Manna Dey, Geeta and Shamshad are usually the favourite singers of music lovers and their fans are simply devoted to them. Out of this list, just remove Saigal and Talat, because they had Unique voices and there was no direct competitors of them as far as their voices were concerned.
