Continuing with Lata Mangeshkar songs, I found another song from an all time classic music score. This time it is the lone song remaining to be posted from the musical block buster ‘Shree 420′ (1955).

Last year, I had written an article for this blog on saajan tum se pyaar karoon main from the film BADNAAM (1952) as a tribute to Basant Prakash, the music director of the film. Recently, I came across another lovely song ‘le jaa apni yaad bhi le jaa’ from the same film. This song has some similarity in music composition with that of preet ye kaisee bol ree duniya from “Daag’ (1952). Even the metres of both these songs, more or less, match. Incidentally, both these songs were penned by Shailendra and sung by Lata Mangeshkar. So one link led to another and in the event, I noted the following interesting observations concerning these two films.

So here is the ‘S’ alphabet song I talked about in my last post on ‘R’ song. It is a Rafi solo with two versions, one happy and one sad, from the movie “Jhuk gayaa aasmaan”. Such a musical blockbuster film starring Rajendra Kumar and Saira Bano. And wherever I was looking for Rafi sahab’s songs in the list with S-J’s music they were all in red. I could not believe my luck when I found that this song was not posted.

In 1946, the renowned Ghulam Haider took a very young 18 year old girl to Filmistan Studio, to introduce her to S Mukherjee. The young girl went through a voice audition for the big boss of Filmistan, who summarily rejected her, saying that her voice was too thin, without depth and without range. A disappointed Ghulam Haider had remarked to S Mukherjee, that he would one day regret this decision, and the world will know the capabilities of this artist.
