That is the very first introduction to this extremely versatile actress of the Hindi cinema. The song was played in the weekly Chitrahaar program one evening. And the kid me was soaking in the performance with an open mouth and extreme ignorance of the emotions being dealt with. The primeval image carried in was that of a serious actress given over to sad roles and sad songs. Little did I know that I couldn’t have more further from reality.

The film is produced and directed by Ram Daryani, under the banner of Murli Cinetone, Bombay. Music was given by Pt Gobind Ram and songs and dialogues were by Ishwar Chandra Kapoor. The cast of the film was Mumtaz Shanti, Dilip Kumar, Gope, Gulab, Dixit, Manorama, Jeevan, Suleiman etc etc.

Yes, it’s that special day of the year again. It’s our blog’s happy happy birthday. It was born on 19th July 2008, so today it completes 9 years. And we, wherever we are in the world, are definitely not going to let the occasion go by without celebration. Today we will have a song from the 1957 L.V. Prasad directed Meena Kumari- Raj Kapoor- Shyama starrer ‘Sharada’ – written as ‘Shaarda’ by Atulji in the ‘List-of songs-moviewise’. It is mentioned as ‘Sharada’ in the filmography of Meena Kumari (a rule in English grammar says that proper nouns can be written with any spelling, specially there is no right or wrong spellings as far as Indian words are concerned).

Time to Yippeee another film. Today’s film is ‘Humjoli’ – not the one from 1970, but the one from way back in 1946. This film has 10 songs listed in the Geet Kosh. Nine songs have already been showcased here on our blog. The last song for this film was posted in November last year. In that post, Atul ji has commented that the 10th song appears to be elusive, and is yet to be uploaded online. Today, as I checked for this song, I am unable to track it anywhere as yet. I could be wrong, as I have been earlier, maybe just limited by the way I searched for it. So I decided to upload this from my collection.

Well, this post is a very, very, very special occasion, or rather a momentous occasion, for our blog and for Atul ji. It is appropriate that this introduction and announcement be made on his behalf.
THIS IS ATUL JI’s 10,000th POST ON THIS BLOG.
This is a milestone, in comparison to which all our earlier milestones and celebrations pale in significance. A single-handed dedicated effort relentlessly in progress for the past almost nine years. I am sure it will take some time for all of us, for the significance and eminence of this event to sink in.
More special posts by the members of our bandwagon are in planning, starting tomorrow. So please keep connected and be a witness to this remarkable celebration.

As regulars are aware, I am based at Izatnagar, Bareilly at present which happens to be located between Delhi and Lucknow. In fact, this place is equidistant from both these cities.
