It is so pleasant to watch Meena Kumari singing a happy song. But then this song is from “Yahudi”, a 1958 movie and Meena Kumari had yet to start playing those melancholic roles that she later became associated with.

This song is from a 1966 movie called “Badtameez”. I have no idea what this movie was all about, but the movie boasted of big names in Bollywood music. Shankar Jaikishan were the music directors while Shailendra wrote the lyrics.

There have been quite a few memorable songs in Bollywood movies covering various aspects of Indian weddings. There have been baraat songs, there have been bidaayi songs etc. In fact some movies viz “Aapke hai kaun” allegedly was nothing more than a video of a wedding.

Most movies that are remembered by future generations are those which are made by established film makers with established personnel. It is rare to find a movie made by novice filmakers with novice personnel hit the jackpot. Most of the time, such movies fail miserably, and quite deservedly too.

This is a “bus” song where Dev Anand is the bus driver and Sadhana is the only passenger. The bus goes in a deserted place and very conveniently conks off.
