Husn chala kuchh aisi chaal

Posted on: December 8, 2008

Raja of Jhumri Tilayya, oops, Holland, keeps wondering why I did not post this song, and whether I did not like this song. Rest assured , Raja, I like all songs of Shammi Kapoor, or for that matter, songs picturised on any other actors, and there is no way I would not have liked this song.

It is just that songs that are well known to him are often totally new for me. I may have heard this song subconsciusly a few times in distant past, but I must admit that it is the first time yesterday that I consciously listened to this song, and fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it.

What a racy number. So archtypically Rafi on Shammi Kapoor. Listening to ths song without any additional information, one would tend to believe that the music is composed by O P Nayyar. But then I put my Sherlock Holmes cap on and deduced that it could not be O P Nayyar. Reason, the female voice is unmistakably Lata, and O P Nayyar never worked with her in his career. An O P Nayyar composition would have Asha Bhonsle instead.

So who was this music director who so effectivey cloned O P Nayyar’s style ? Well, it was the music director duo of Kalyanji Anandji. And they have come up with such a foot tapping, racy number. Hats off to them. And the lyrics are by that amazingly versatile lyricist Rajinder Krishan.

The song is picturised on Shammi Kapoor and a very young Saira Bano. Later, Pran the villain, also joins them and shakes a leg or two in the song. Pran doing a jig ! Well, now I have seen everything.

What a wonderful song, and unbelievably I was not aware of it. Thanks, Raja. Your farmaishes are adding considerably to my Bollywood music knowledge.

Song-Husn chala kuchh aisi chaal (Bluff Master) ( 1963 ) Singers- Rafi,Lata, Lyrics- Rajinder Krishan, MD- Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

are husn chalaa kuchh aisi chaal
deewaane kaa poochh naa haal
husn chalaa kuchh aisi chaal
deewaane kaa poochh naa haal
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
aji dil ko ab tak hai inkaar
aankhen kar baithin ikraar
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa

ho o kabhi paas aayen kabhi door jaayen
ke hain dil churaane ki laakhon adaayen
nahin teer niklaa abhi tak kamaan se
nahin teer niklaa abhi tak kamaan se
koyi unse kah de ki dil ko bachaayen
ke dil ko bachayen

haay husn chalaa kuchh aisi chaal
deewaane kaa poochh naa haal
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
dil ko ab tak hai inkaar
aankhen kar baithin ikraar
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa

ho kahaan tak rahoge ye daaman bachaa ke
ke mushkil hai bachnaa nishaane pe aa ke
hamaaraa hai kyaa ham to mit ke rahenge
hamaaraa hai kyaa ham to mit ke rahenge
jahaan tumne dekhaa zaraa muskaraa ke
zaraa muskaraa ke
dil ko ab tak hai inkaar
aankhen kar baithin ikraar
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
are husn chalaa kuchh aisi chaal
deewaane kaa poochh naa haal
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa

ho o ye din hain tumhaare zamaanaa tumhaaraa
nigaahen udhar hain idhar hai ishaaraa
ye paighaam dete hain zulfon ke saaye
ye paighaam dete hain zulfon ke saaye
chalaa aaye jo hai mohabbat kaa maaraa
mohabbat kaa maaraa
husn chalaa kuchh aisi chaal
deewaane kaa poochh naa haal
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
dil ko ab tak hai inkaar
aankhen kar baithin ikraar
pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa
haay pyaar ki qasam kamaal ho gayaa

I love the qawwali from this film too, with Shammi in drag 🙂 Great songs! (English? hint hint) 🙂

Indeed, translation of Shammi Kapoor songs is a priority. Meanwhile I have translated one Rajesh Khanna song too from “Sacha Jhootha” viz “yoon hi tum mujhse baat karte ho”.

So finally you did post this one !!!
Bhai, jhumri talaiya ki naak kat-te kat-te bach gayi 😉
Isn’t it a catchy, time-pass song ?
I first heard this when I was a teenager.
Did not know which movie it was, who the actor was, just heard the song and liked it a lot.
Years later, I learnt that it was Shammi in Bluffmaster.

I do not recall listening to this song during those days.

I so remember listening to this song in the radio ages ago. It still sounds fresh and wonderful. Thank you both Raja and Atul :).
