“Naya Daur” was a movie that reflected the official philosophy of the newly independent India of 1950s, which was idealistic as well as simplistic. It was believed by that regime that Socialism was the panacea to all ills of society and that Capitalism was evil.
This movie “Naya Daur” glorifies Socialism, now dubbed as known as Nehruvian socialism by Indian historians.
Leaving ideology aside, “Naya Daur” ( New Era) was a movie that was a hit movie of its time. Its storyline may appear too tedious by today’s standards, but it was a storyline that obviously had its takers ( and lots of them) at that time.
Now 60 years old, he gave me some interestng informations about this movie “Naya Daur”. This movie was shot mostly on outdoor locations in places near Bhopal. The key scenes were shot in a small place called Budni.
Another interesting thing he informed me was that the brother of music director O P Nayyar was a doctor named H P Nayyar and he practiced in Itarsi (MP). The would be Radio Ceylon fan,named Mukund,who was then about 10 years old and lived in Itarsi got badly injured in his forehead while playing in school, and he was treated by Dr H P Nayyar. So he can say that he was treated by O P Nayyar’s brother.
This radio ceylon fan, knowing about this blog of mine, volunteered the above information to me today. So here is this song, alongwith this newly acquired trivia.
