Dil mein kya hai

Posted on: January 14, 2009

Jeetendra, who can be said to have taken over from Shammi Kapoor when it came to roles that called for vigorous dancing, was nicknamed Jumping Jack. I have no idea which movie earned him that sobriquet. My suspicion is that it was the movie “Farz”. And just how vigoorously could he dance ? I think this song from “Jigri Dost” gives us some idea.

People who have no idea about Jeetendra may think that Jeetendra is teaching gymnastics to the girl (Komal) the way Jeetendra is seen lifting her to a height. A brief while later, the two start moving to and fro, and one is convinced that Jeetendra is teaching her Kabaddi. It is just that instead of “kabaddi kabaddi”, Jeetendra goes “tere dil me kya hai” and touches her ( Out !), followed by Komal singing “Dil me hai tu hi tu” and touches him (Out !).

I must say it is a very good and innovative way to practice for Kabaddi.

The lyrics make for good change from the boring “Kabaddi kabaddi” chant too. The lyrics consists of questions, and the other has to reply to that question. We all know that one improves one’s general knowledge by asking questions. I am convinced that the two had improved their GK drastically by the time the song ended.

Another bystander, Jagdeep, is also seen watching their net practice with rapt attention. But I doubt he was able to learn too many tricks of the trade by watching from such a distance.

PS- I am told that the lady Komal later changed her name to Poonam. Also that she is the same person who is now the wife of Shatrughan Sinha.

Song- Dil mein kya hai (Jigri dost) (1969) Singers-Lata, Rafi, Lyrics- Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

aa hmm
Dil mein kya hai
tere dil me kya hai
dil me hai tu hi tu
hai aarzoo hai zustjoo
tere hi lab pe kyaa hai
tere lab pe kyaa hai
tera hi naam hai
payaam hai
salaam hai
tera hi dil me kya hai

thi jaane jigar main hoon idhar
main hoon idhar
kyun tumne najar pheri udhar
dekhta hoon main rut ke nazaare
rut me kya hai
aisa rut me kya hai
tera hi roop hai ye chaaon hai
ye dhoop hai
teri hi dil me kya hai

sun iss raat ka iss pyaar ka
iss pyaar ka
kya tohfa tujhe doon main bata
gul meri zulfon me saja de
gul me kya hai
bolo gul me kya hai
tera hi rang hai
umang hai tarang hai
tere hi lab pe kyaa hai

tum mere liye jaane wafaa
jaane wafa
kar sakta hai tu kyaa kyaa fidaa
sab fidaa aankhon ke siwaaye
dil me kya hai
aankhon me kya hai
tere hi khwaab hain sawaal hain jawaab hain
tere hi dil me kya hai
tere lab pe kya hai
mera hi naam hai
pyaaam hai salaam hai
tera hi

Loved this song, vaguely remember hearing it earlier. Rafi is really awesome!

Absolutely great song. I have been enjoying it since I saw Jigri Dost for the first time in 1972. And thank you for updating me on Komal — I mean Poonam –; happy to hear she got herself the one and only Shotgun. I trust she didn’t have too much trouble taming him. — From Nigeria.
