Meena Kumari is regarded as the first great tragedy queen of Bollywood movies. But in reality that crown rightfully belongs to Nutan. Nutan had begun playing tragic roles as early as 1955 when Meena Kumari was still playing happy bubbly roles.

Few people have heard the name of this movie and fewer people may have heard this song, but that was not the case all the time. During 1973, this song “tere sau deewaane” used to be quite a popular song.

The movie “Saawan Ko Aane Do” was a musical blockbuster, and its songs became very popular among its target audience, viz audience who watched non mainstream ( read Amitabh Bachchan kind of action movies) movies which were made on shoestring budget with unknown faces.

“Joshila” (1973) is one of the lesser known movies starring Dev Anand with the then young heroines Hema Malini and Rakhi. The movie failed at the box office and few people recall what this movie was all about.

“Kashmir Ki Kali ” has so many nice songs that this particular song somehow misses out in the popularity stakes. Though I have heard this song a few times, and for that matter I have even watched the movie, but I was not aware that the song “hai duniya usi ki zamaana usika” was from “Kashmir Ki Kali”.

There have been at least two movies called “Manzil” that I know. I have posted one rain song from the newer “Manzil” starring Amitabh Bachchan. Here is a duet from the older “Manzil” starring Dev Anand and Nutan.

Shammi Kapoor tended to act opposite heoines half his age, but he has also acted opposite at least one heroine in his age group. And that is Mala Sinha. In fact, Mala Sinha had acted opposite Shammi Kapoor as early as in 1959 when he was finding his feet as the actor he subsequently became in 1960s.

The movie “Faraar” is one of the lesser known movies of Amiatbh Bachchan. In fact, any movie just off the beaten track tended to end up becoming a lesser known movie, since the Bollywood spectators were just not mature enough to patronise movies that were even slightly different.

“Saawan ko aane do” was Rajshri productions movie where Arun Govil (later of “Ram” fame) got the opportunity of acting as an hero opposite another Rakhshi productions regular viz Zarina Wahab.
