Apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye

“Barsaat ki ek raat” (1981), not to be confused with “Barsaat ki raat” (1960)- was a remake of a hit Bangla movie called “Anusandhaan”. But unlike the original, the Hindi remake did not succeed.
The reason why the Hindi version did not succeed could well lie in the fact that the Hindi version was too slow moving for the Hindi movie audience, and secondly, the audience expected Amitabh to figure in his usual dhishum dhishum roles, and they were disappointed. Thirdly, the pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhi looked mismatched. Though Amitabh Bachchan is five years older than Rakhi , she, then just 33 years of age, had begun to look matronly. Fourthly, Rakhi played a blind woman, and leading actors playing such roles in Bollywood movies is mostly a recipe to disaster.
The music of both the versions was composed by R D Burman. And what superb music this movie had ! Almost all the songs of this movie were popular.
The most popular song of this movie was ofcourse this song “apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye”. It is sung superbly by Lata and Kishore Kumar. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. The song is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhi in locations of tea gardens of North Bengal. Amjad Khan, the villain watches them from a distance and he is not amused at the intimacy being displayed by the duo towards each other.
I had watched this movie not in “batsaat ki ek raat”, but in “jaade ki ek raat”, and a movie hall employee, obviously far less motivated than me, told me- “this is the time to stay at home, rather than come to the movie hall and watch this movie in this weather.”
Song-apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye (Barsaat ki ek raat) (1981) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar,Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
aa
o
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
honthon pe geeton ke phool khil gaye
saari duniyaa chhod ke man meet mil gaye
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
apane pyaar ke sapne sach huye
pal bhar ko mile jo ankhiyaan
dekhoon main suni hain jo batiyaan
padh loon main tore nainon ki patiyaan
pal bhar ko mile jo ankhiyaan
dekhoon main suni hain jo batiyaan
binaa dekhe tum dekho meri aankhon se
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
kaanton se bhari thi jo galiyaan
un mein khili hain ab kaliyaan
jhoomo naacho manaao rangareliyaan
kaanton se bhari thi jo galiyaan
un mein khili hain ab kaliyaan
chalo sajnaa kahen chalke saare logon se
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
donon:
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
jab jab mile jeewan o sajnaa
tum hi mujhe pahnaao kanganaa
teri doli ruke mere angnaa
ho jab jab mile jeewan o sajnaa
tum hi mujhe pahnaao kanganaa
meraa ghunghtaa tum kholo apne haathon se
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
honthon pe geeton ke phool khil gaye
saari duniyaa chhod ke man meet mil gaye
apne pyaar ke sapne sach huye
