This song was among the most popular songs of 1970s, especially among pre teens like me. But I had no inkling which movie this song was from, though I guessed that this song must be from some well known movie.
It is only yesterday that I have come to know that this song is from an obscure movie called “Heera” (1973). This movie had Sunil Dutt and asha Parekh in lead roles and Shatrughan Sinha played the villain.
I had earlier discussed the fact that interaction of boys and girls in frowned upon in India and therefore most of these meetings take place in a hush hush manner. The girl typically gives the excuse at home that she is going to meet her girl friends or going to attend coaching classes/ extra classes etc.
But what does a girl do if she is a school drop out and/ or unlettered ? Then sher has to think of some other excuse. Here our beloved Asha parekh explains it to Sunil Dutt that sjhe has come to meet him on the pretext of going to the temple. yes, the lyrics of this song are certainly cute ! And I am seriously considering providing the translation so that non Hindi speakers are not deprived from the juicy details. 🙂
The song is sung by Lata and Rafi.Indeewar is the lyricist and Kalyanji Anandji composed the music. This song is picturised on Asha Parekh and Suni Dutt with Shatrughan Sinha eavesdropping from behind a wall ! 🙂
