O maajhi chal tu chale to chham chham baaje paayal

on:Here is a song from “Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke” (1969). It is prima facie a boat song, but on second thoughts it is an inspirational song as well.
The song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on a boat where Dharmendra, Asha Parekh Aruna Irani and a kid (looks familiar but I am unable to tell his name- can any reader help to identify him ?). Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.
PS-The kid is Master Shahid. I thank Greta (Memsaab)- a regular identifier of such obscure artists for us. 🙂
This is a “maajhi” (boatman) song which was a speciality of S D Burman. Here Laxmikant Pyarelal provide their own version of Maajhi song.
This song, like so many other Rafi songs has gone on to become a timeless classic.

teraa jeewan nadiyaa ki dhaar hai
tan hai naiyyaa,

teraa jeewan nadiyaa ki dhaar hai
tan hai naiyyaa,
man patwaar hai
sun o maanjhi,
maujon ki pukaar hai
thaam le tu
thaam le tu
mast pawan kaa lahraataa aanchal
o maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal
o o
hmm hmm hmm hmm
aashaaon se naataa jod de
ye niraashaa ke bandhan tod de
aashaaon se naataa jod de
ye niraashaa ke bandhan tod de
sun o maanjhi,
aaj kaa gam tu chhod de
aaj to peechhe
aaj to peechhe rah gayaa hai
saamne hai kal
o maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal
tu chale jo chham chham baaje maujon ki paayal
o maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal
maanjhi chal,
maanjhi chal
maanjhi chal,
o maanjhi chal

I salute Greta, who is a whole lot more knowledgeable about these actors and actresses than I have ever been or will be!
I have always loved this song, with its philosophical message, and the picturisation of this song makes it even better than I imagined. Thanks, Atul!

I have seen this movie. Aruna Irani and Asha parekh father is dead in an road accident caused by Dharmendra’s car. Dharmendra is trying to cheer the three siblings. They dont know their father died due to Dharams car.
See it is not so difficult to get an idea !
