In Hindi movies, Kids are supposed to be a straight line extention of grown ups, so they are shown behaving like grown ups. Lead actors who are shown in love with each other in their grown up age are shown to be in love with each other even in their childhood in case their childhood is depicted in the movie.

While looking up information about Naushad, I found out that he made his debut as a music director in 1940 in a movie called “Prem Nagar”. In this movie he composed as many as 13 songs. Those are the days when actors themselves used to sing their own songs.

Hindi movie songs are mostly about human feelings, viz love, sadness,happiness etc. As a kid, I was not much into such high sounding songs, especially sad/serious songs. I was more into fun songs.

There are several Hindi movies with grand sounding titles, but here is a very homely kind of a title for a movie. It is called “Mera Ghar Mere Bachche” (1960), which means “My home and my kids”. How very plebian !

“Raajhath” (1956) was a movie starring Pradeep Kumar and Mabhubala. This movie had some lovely songs in it. I have posted two songs from this movie already including the fabulous Ye waada karo chand ke saamne.

In Hindi movies of yore, Hero is shown seated on the piano and singing a song. I for instance recall Dilip Kumar perpetually seated on a grand piano in the movie “Andaaz” (1949). 😀

“Anmol Ghadi” (1946) was the biggest hit of the year 1946 and this movie in fact must be regarded as a landmark movie in the Hindi movie industry. The movie had Noorjehaan, Surendra and Suraiyya in lead roles. These three in fact sang their own songs. There was no dearth of songs in this movie. There were as many as 12 songs in it and they all became very popular.
