In Bollywood movies, most songs are lip synced on screen by actors. But there are some songs that are played on the background and the actors on the screen are not required to lip sync these songs. I have posted quite a few songs of this nature. All these days, I failed to realise that I should categorise these songs as background songs.

How many of us have heard of this movie called “Jhoola” ? I had not, and I guessed that a movie by this name must be from early 1950s, since this title rhymed with titles of those days, viz “Mela”, “Jhamelaa” etc.

I sincerely believe that parents should take care of their kids and they should not deprive them of their basic requirements. And what did a kid like me want in 1972 as his basic requirement ? I badly wanted to see “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). The songs of this movie had such a pied piper like effect that everyone was attracted towards the movie halls screening this movie. “Love In Shimla” (1960) has a song that is basically a recitation of the Urdu alphabet that goes “Alif Zabar aa alif zer ae alif pesh o” which is sort of like ” A se anaar aa se aam” of Hindi or “A for apple B for Bat…” in English. For one who has studied Urdu, writing down the lyrics of this song would be a cakewalk. I am not familiar with the Urdu alphabet and as a result, the lyrics of this song is Greek (rather Urdu) to me. I had planned to post this song in the past, but I could not do so mostly because I was unable to follow the lyrics.

Most of the songs discussed in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. By 1980s, deterioration in the quality of Bollywood songs had begun and the sun of the golden era of Bollywood music was on the verge of setting.

There was a time when India had only one TV channel and that used to telecast boring programmes and news. Now we have countless channels including several news channels. These news channels are often short of ideas and they try to create news out of thin air and call that as “breaking news”. Typically the reporter of the channel will go to a certain site and try to describe a breaking news item, and he will struggle to find things to say.
