“Prem Nagar” (1940) is the movie where Naushad made his debut as a music director. The songs of this movie are a nostalgia buff’s delight.
In this movie, there is a song ( Mat bolo bahaar ki batiyaan re (Prem Nagar) ) that is sung in the voice of Bimla Kumari who is different from Bimla Kumari who lip syncs the blockbuster song Hawa me udta jaaye mora laal dupatta malmal kaa(Barsaat).
Here is another song from “Prem Nagar” (1940) with great nostalgia value. this song is sung by Husn Banu and it is picturised on herself as well. I am unable to identify the male actor, though he could be prof Ramanand, going by the credits of this movie. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Atul ji,
You have made some comments about singer Bimalakumari and actress Bimlakumari in this song discussion as well as in your post of the song ‘Mat bolo bahar ki batiyaan’ from Premnagar ,on 5-9-2010.
I would like to point out to you that these are two different persons.
Singer actress Bimlakumari was active in the late 30s and 40s.If I remember right her real name was Khursheed,but since there were already many Khursheeds operating she took the name of Bimala Kumari.
The other(Barsat wali) Bimla kumari was a minor dancer/starlet of the 50s and 60s.besides Barsaat,she had a role in Albela(1951) as Bhagwan’s sister(Dheerese ajaa re ankhiyan mein).Her other films were Anandmath,Sunhere din,Sheesha,sargam and shrimatiji.Nagi Reddi took her to Madras for working in Vauhini studios,but she could not adjust to the disciplined regime of south industry.She came back in 1954 and worked as a dancer in Do ustad,sahib bibi aur ghulam,Detective,Inaam,Guest House and Zimbo ki Beti.Then she simply
disappeared from the industry,probably getting married.

Thanks for this information. Not just too many Khursheeds, it seems that there are too many Raj Kumars and too many Bimla Kumaris too. 😀
