Mora dheere se ghoonghat hataaye piyaa

When it comes to singers of the earlier decades, Amirbai Karnataki is a singer that I love to listen to. While searching for songs sung by her, I came across this rare and absolutely wonderful song.
This song is from an obscure movie called “Bharthari” (1944). While looking for the details of this movie, I drew a blank, and a comment made in the YT link is my only source of information about this song. The same link also mentions that Khemchand Prakash was the music director of this movie. This song has lovely lyrics in it but the lyricist of the song is not known either, at least for now.
Here is this absolutely wonderful song from “Bharthari” (1944) which I heard for the first time only just now and I loved it.
Song-Mora dheere se ghoonghat hataaye piyaa (Bharthari)(1944) Singer-Amirbai Karnataki, Lyrics-Pt Indra Chandra, MD-Khemchand Prakash
Lyrics
mora dheere se ghoonghat hataaye piyaa
mohe chandra kalanki bataaye piyaa
mora dheere se ghoonghat hataaye piyaa
mohe chandra kalanki bataaye piyaa
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
mora geet sunan ko aaye piyaa
mohe koyal kah ke lajaaye piyaa
mora geet sunan ko aaye piyaa
mohe koyal kah ke lajaaye piyaa
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
mora apne hi haathhon singaar kare
mari veni mein phoolon ka haar dare
phir dheere se
phir dheere se darpan dikhaaye piyaa
phir dheere se
phir dheere se darpan dikhaaye piyaa
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
morey maathe pe bindiya lagaaye piyaa
mohey hans hans ke paan khilaaye piyaa
morey maathe pe bindiya lagaaye piyaa
mohey hans hans ke paan khilaaye piyaa
more nainon mein kajra sajaaye piyaa
more painyya mein paayal pinhaaye piyaa
meethhi baaten banaaye rijhaaye piyaa
meethhi baaten banaaye rijhaaye piyaa
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli
main kachhu na boli

Atul ji,
BHARTHARI-1944 (not Raja Bharthari) was a movie by Navin pictures, directed by Chturbhuj Doshi with music by Khemchand prakash.
The correct name is Bhartrihari, but the common name is Bharthari.
Raja Bharthari was a king of Ujjain either in the 1st or 7th century.there are manyfolktales about him in North india where he was famous as a saint. He was also a subject matter of many films like-
Bharthari-1922
” -1932
” -1944
Rajyogi Bharthari-1954
pingala Bharthari-1990 and
Raja Bharthari(Gujarathi)-1973
The music of this film was very popular. The story is,King Bharthari goes on a Hunt when he sees a young woman jumping on the burning pyre of her dead husband(Sati). He comes home and asks his queen Pingala if she would also do the same after his death. The queen replies,No,because she will die the moment she hears about his death. The king wants to test this and goes for hunting once again. From there he sends a false message of his death.Hearing the news, the queen dies instantly. The king is repentent and mourns very much.Hearing this episode,Guru Gorakhnath comes and creates 750 images of pingla and also makes her alive. The king realises the futility of this mortal world, renounces everything and becomes a saint.
The film cast was Surendra as Bharthari,Mumtaj Shanti as Queen Pingala and Nagendra(who later became pahadi Sanyal) as guru Gorakh nath,Kajjan, sulochana,Dave,Babar etc.
The music was outstanding, perticularly Amirbai-Surendra duet ‘Bhiksha dede maiyya pingala…’

Thank You Arunji for the detail. I do Have the Gujarati DVD. The song “Bhiksha De ne re maiya Pingala” got very popular and Mahendra Kapoor gave pure justice to that song by pronouncing each word right.
Don’t have enough words to say how much thankful I am to you all for giving me the pleasure of listening to and appreciating these precious gems.
