Posted on: December 12, 2011

“Dhool Ka Phool” (1959) is a B R Films production which was produced by B R Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. The star cast of the movie had names viz. Mala Sinha, Rajendra Kumar, Nanda, Manmohan Krishna,Leela Chitins, Daisy Irani, Ashok Kumar,Amir Banu, Jagdish Raaj, Narbada Shankar, Uma Dutt, Mohan Choti, Jeevan, Mehmood, Sushil Kumar etc.

This movie, which was made on a bold theme of premarital motherhood, that too more than half a century ago, was a hit at the box office. The songs of this movie became quite popular and they remain popular to this day. Some of these songs have become iconic songs.

I have discuseed as many as six songs from this movie and ironically a song as iconic as this was still missing. So here is this song . This song is sung by Rafi. Sahir Ludhianvi, well known for writing songs with messages, has given a message that will relevant for all times to come.

N Datta is the music director.

This song is pictrurised on Manmohan Krishna and Daisy Irani.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Tu Hindu banega na Musalmaan banegaa (Dhool Ka Phool)(1959) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-N Datta

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

tu hindu banega na musalmaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega
tu hindu banega na musalmaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega

achcha hai abhi tak tera kuchch naam nahin hai
tujhko kisi mazhab se koi kaam nahin hai
achcha hai abhi tak tera kuchch naam nahin hai
tujhko kisi mazhab se koi kaam nahin hai
jis ilm ne insaanon ko taqseem kiyaa hai
uss ilm ka tujh par koi ilzaam nahin hai
tu badle huye waqt ki pehchaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega
tu hindu banega na musalmaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega

maalik ne har insaan ko insaan banaayaa
humne usse hindu yaa musalmaan banaayaa
maalik ne har insaan ko insaan banaayaa
humne usse hindu yaa musalmaan banaayaa
kudrat ne to bakshi thi hamein ek hi dharti
humne kahin Bhaarat kahin Iiraan banaayaa
jo tod de har bandh woh toofaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega
tu hindu banega na musalmaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banega

nafrat jo sikhaaye woh dharam tera nahin hai
insaan ko jo raunde woh qadam tera nahin hai
nafrat jo sikhaaye woh dharam tera nahin hai
insaan ko jo raunde woh qadam tera nahin hai
quraan na ho jissmein woh mandir nahin teraa
geetha na ho jismein woh haram tera nahin hai
tu aman ka aur sulah ka armaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banegaa
tu hindu banega na musalmaan banega
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banegaa

ye deen ke taajar ye watan bechnewaale
watan bechnewaale
ye deen ke taajar ye watan bechnewaale
insaanon ki laashon ke kafan bechnewaale
kafan bechnewale
insaanon ki laashon ke kafan bechnewaale
ye mehlon mein baithe huye qaatil ye lutere
kaanton ke ewaj rooh-e-chaman bechnewaale
kaanton ke ewaj rooh-e-chaman bechnewaale
tu inke liye maut ka elaan banegaa
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banegaa
tu hindu banega na musalmaan banega
insaan ki aulaad hai insaan banegaa

There is one movie called MOHINI(1957)(director:Raman.B.Desai)starring Nirupa roy,Shahu Modak,Krishna kumari, Madanpuri,Roopkumar,Shakila:production house:Navkala nikethan) and the music for the movie was provided by N.dutta & lyrics by Raja Mehdi ali khan.
In that film, one song picturised on Nirupa roy sung by Mohammed rafi
“Kya kya na situm tujhpe huye, o mehlon ki raani, kismet ne likhi aansoon se teri kahaani, o mehlon ki raani”(That song video is available at youtube).
Above mentioned same tune was used for this Dhool ka phool song (“Tu Hindu banega na musalmaan banegaa”) also. Both songs are very much same in mukda and anthraa tune structure.

That similarity was pointed out by Vividhbharthi announcer Yunus khan in Chhayageet programme compiled by him.

This is one of my all-time favourite songs. Am surprised it was not posted till now. Anyway, better late than never! What lovely lyrics by Sahir saab! I liked the movie too.

This is such a meaningful song! I was about eight or nine when I first saw this movie, and I spent most of the time sobbing in the theater because there was so much crying going on in the movie, but I saw it again recently and was surprised that they even thought of making such a trendsetting movie at that time. The humiliation suffered by the helpless child was so well portrayed in this movie, and how the child then turns to other sources for support really touches one’s heart. Great lyrics and great rendition by Rafi.

N Dutta seems to have been inspired by the tune of his own song from film MOHINI (1957) while composing music for this song.
