Mere sainyya padoon painyya

Posted on: January 3, 2012

“Naya Raasta” (1970) is a movie which was produced by I A Nadiadwala and directed by Akhtar Khalid. This movie had Asha Parekh, Jeetendra, Sujit Kumar, Lalita Pawar, Farida Jalal, D K Sapru, Veena, Balraj Sahni, Kishan Mehta, Shefali, Roopesh Kumar etc in this movie.

I have discussed as many as three songs from this movie. Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Asha Parekh as a roadside tamasha song, with many people, including Jeetendra watching the performance.

The song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi. Music is composed by N Datta.

apna banaa ke
thhukraana na
ho o
apna banaa ke

meethhi si ik aag suhaanee
bhhadak rahi hai
mere ik ik ang mein
meethhi si ik aag suhaanee
bhhadak rahi hai
mere ik ik ang mein
ho aisa jaadoo daaraa
toone rang gayi main to
zulmi tere rang mein
zulmi tere rang mein
mere rasiya
man basiyaa
tarse huon ko
tarsaana na
ho o
tarse huon ko
tarsaana na
mere sainyya
padoon painyya
apna banaa ke
thhukraana na

tan bechain hai
mann beqaaboo
is albeli
khushiyon waali raat mein
tan bechain hai
mann beqaaboo
is albeli
khushiyon waali raat mein
ho chhoode waali bainyya meri
thham le sajna
badhh ke apne haath mein
badh ke apne haath mein
khaa ke qasmein
kar ke bas mein
naazuk dil tadpaana na
ho o
naazuk dil tadpaana na
mere sainyya
padoon painyya
apna banaa ke
thhukraana na
ho
apna banaa ke
thhukraana
na na

I’d seen ‘Naya Raasta’ when it had released. It was a mediocre movie. What I can’t forget is Asha Parekh’s role as a poor downtrodden villager. But her costumes are made of beautiful silk! And her hairdo is so perfect! So much for authenticity in Hindi movies!

Asha Parekh never compromised with her costume in any of role after she established herself as a leading lady of hindi cinema. In baharon ke sapne (with Rajesh Khanna) she was a poor girl too, but I can’t figure it out if she was wearing a silk costumes as the movie was in B & W. In the movie Samadhi (with Dharmendra) it was a same story.
