Mausam hai bahaaron ka

Posted on: January 9, 2012

Here is a song that could well be called the national anthem of truck drivers. I was under the impression that this song was already covered in the blog, but I was wrong and not for the first time either.

Here is this song from “Mere Hamsafar”(1970). The picturisation shows the driver and his assistant, played by Suresh and Jagdeep, singing away this song while driving on road. Jeetendra and Sharmila Tagore and riding the rear of the truck (whether clandestinely or with the knowledge of the truck driver, I am not sure).

The song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Balbir and chorus.

Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and the lilting music of this song is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Lyrics of this song and other details were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

hi Atul, Hullo Prakashchandraji
there is a line missing from the opening stanza (mukhda)
“jaldi chal gaddiye
ae ae
main nu yaar se milna hain”
this song is similar to the song in “DDLJ”
“Ghar Aja Pardesi Tera Das Bulaye Re”
atul will that song qualify for a place in our blog?

Atul ji,
MERE HUMSAFAR-1970 was aLa Bela Films presentation and was directed by Dulal Guha.
The cast consisted of Jeetendra,Sharmila Tagore,Balraj Sahni,Jeevan,Tiwari,Laxmi chhaya,Shammi,Sunder,Jagdeep,Suresh etc.
Raju(Jeetendra) is a simple and kind hearted village farmer. When his father dies, the village Mahajan confiscates his land and house for recovery of father’s loan.Raju has no option but to go to a bigger town to earn money to reclaim his land and house. He boards a truck, without the driver’s knowledge, and is shocked to find Tarana(Sharmila Tagore) already hiding there. They both travel together clandestinely till the driver and cleaner find them(after the above song).Luckily the driver helps them and puts them in a Bombay-bound goods train, when they reach the truck’s destination.
While travelling in the train, once Raju gets down for water and the train leaves without him.Tarana lands in Bombay all alone.Fortunately, she is spotted by Ashok(Balraj Sahni) a talented film director. He takes her to his house.Later he trains her and makes her a Heroine of his film.In due course, she becomes, famous and wealthy.
Meanwhile Raju reaches Bombay, starts earning money and searches for Tarana. The local dada’s sister falls in his love.Raju finds Tarana but, sensing trouble,Ashok does not allow them to meet.
The rest of the story is about how the truck driver/cleaner meet Raju, help him in his goal and how Tarana is ready to sacrifice all her stardom and wealth for Raju’s love.
The film has many comic scenes of Shammi,Sunder,Jagdeep, suresh and Jeetendra.Actually, this was a period in Hindi film industry when slowly, the comedian’s roles were becoming redundent as the Heros themselves enacted comic scenes. In this,Govinda,Amitabh,Jeetendra were leading to have own comedy scenes.
overall,this film was quite entertaining.
