Most music directors of B grade movies tend to remain confined to B grade music throughout their careers. But the music director duo of Laxmikant Pyarelal were no ordinary music director duo. They began their career as independent music directors with B grade movies/ small budget movies, but they created such stunning music in these movies that they quickly joined the ranks of the most sought after music directors in the Hindi movie music industry.
Who can forget the music of movies like “Parasmani” (1963),”Harishchandra Taramati”(1963),”Mr X in Bombay” (1964), “Dosti” (1964) etc.
“Aaya Toofaan” (1964) was a quintessential B grade movie which was studded with all the necessary B grade ingredients that B grade movie lovers love to bits.
Here is a superb song from “Aaya Toofaan”(1964). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on a group of dancing ladies who perform this dance in presence of His highness, one and only Shyam Kumar. I can only identify Helen among the dancers. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the other dancers as well.
Asad Bhopali is the lyricist.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra, who informs me that the video of this song was longer than the audio version. So here is the video version of the song for the listning and watching pleasure of the readers.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
pattharon se
daastaan-e-dil
kahey dete hain hum
raaz ki baatein
sare-mehfil
kahey dete hain hum
hum pyaar kiye jaayenge
koyi rok sakey to rok le
hum pyaar kiye jaayenge
koyi rok sakey to rok le
chaahe ye duniya deewaar baney
yaa maut galey ka haar baney
hum phir bhi unhein chaahenge
koyi rok sakey to rok le
koyi rok sakey to rok le
hum pyar kiye jaayenge
koyi rok sakey to rok le
pyaar ki raah mein
aaa aa aaaaa
aaaaa…aaaaa
pyaar ki raah mein
ye dil-o-jaan kya….aaaaa
sab luta denge hum
shaan kya….aa
shaan kyaa….
koyi aasaan nahin ab hamein rokna
koyi aasaan nahin ab hamein rokna
ab kadam uthh gaye, ab hamein dekhna
haan kadam uthh gaye,
ab hamein dekhna
manzil pe
manzil pe nazar aayenge
koyi rok sakey to rok le
hum pyaar kiye jaayenge
koyi rok sake to rok le
Aaaa…aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
sun lo ye faisla….aaaa….aa
aaaa aaa….aaaaa
sun lo ye faisla
dil ki awaaz hai….
humko bhi pyar par naaz hai
naaz hai….
aur honge jinhein maal-o-dar chaahiye
aur honge jinhein maal-o-dar chaahiye
humko to pyar ki ek nazar chaahiye
haan hamein pyar ki ek nazar chaahiye
woh aaj
woh aaj idhar aayenge
koyi rok sake to rok le
chaahe ye duniya deewaar baney
yaa maut gale ka haar baney….
hum phir bhi unhein chaahenge
koi rok sake to rok le
hum pyaar kiye jaayenge
koi rok sakey to rok le

I remember this song from those days! When I saw the lyrics of this song, I was able to recollect the tune and even some of the lyrics, so it was obviously a hit in those days. If you ask me to recollect the lyrics from any of the songs in the movies since 1980 onwards, I will draw a blank, but the songs of my childhood are forever etched in my memory – does this mean that the lyrics were outstanding, or just that my long term memory is better than my short term memory? I prefer to think that the lyrics and tunes were better in those days. Thanks for the treat, Atul and Prakash Chandraji!

This song reminds me of
“hum pyaar ka sauda karte hai ik baar,
chhahe meet jaaye chhahe mar jaaye”
from Zindagi -1964 in which VMala is dancing. It’s by Lataji also.

I just love this song.
Such a fine combination of earlier laxmipyare lilting compositions,Lataji`voice(the challenging tone),Helenji(she is marvellous, she gave her 101% to the tune),
Great yet subtle Asad Bhopaliji.
They don`t make like these songs any more. That`s the saddest part.
But again one thing is there I have seen a Colour version of this song(Its somewhat like fuji colour scheme)at Youtube, But in that video clip first aalaapan lyrics are not there.
Anyways, Ye gaane ko iss jagah pe dekhne ki bahut dinon ki khwahish poori kar di
Atulji
Dhanyawaad
