When one is searching for music from the so called second rung music directors, one begins to come across films one never imagined they existed. Take this one for example. Kind of lost in the list of similar sounding films. There is a fair number of films that start with the word “Rustom”. ‘Rustom-e-Hind’, ‘Rustom-e-Rome’, ‘Rustam Sohrab. etc. This film has not yet appeared on this blog. So with this song, now the film “Rustom –e- Baghdad” makes an entry here. Produced in 1963 under the banner of Henna Films, Bombay and directed by BJ Patel. The star cast is impressive (for B/C grade) and includes Dara Singh, Vijaya Chaudhry, Chandrashekhar, Shakila Banu Bhopali, Bhagwan, Rajan Kapoor, Shashimala, Polson, Devichand, Sumitra, Maya Tandon, Bakhshi etc. As to the storyline, I would request other knowledgeable readers to please add more information about this film.
The songs of this film are penned by Asad Bhopali and the music is composed by N Datta. The singing voice is that of Rafi Saab. Thankfully, the video of this song is available. The on screen performance is by Chandashekhar, as he is trying to woo an evasive and hesitant, and yet, a very accommodating Vijaya Choudhary. Chandrashekhar appears to be making an effort to appear like a ‘Shammi Kapoor’, but is of course, nowhere even near. But he still is able to get a smiling attention from the lady in question before the end of the third antaraa. 🙂
Enjoy this lovely expression of love, as the suitor is piling on superlatives, and in general trying to get a favorable glance from his lady love. Despite the one screen presentation, the song is really wonderful.

Last March Chandrashekhar ji & his wife celebrated their 74 wedding anniversary and than in July, 2011 his 89 birthday,
Shammi Kapoor acting-style mostly done by Deb Mukharji, Vijay Arora and Rajiv Kapoor.
