Baandhee re kaahe preet anjaane mein

Posted on: July 10, 2012

The Bangla novel “Parineeta” has inspired the making of several films in Bangla as well as in Hindi. Some of these movies had the same titles as the title of the novel. Then there were movies with different titles too, but based on the same story.

“Sankoch” (1976) was one such movie. This movie was a Suyog Films Production. It was produced by R K Sorel and directed by Anil Ganguli. The movie had Sulakshana Pandit, Jeetendra, Vikram, Urmila Bhatt, Aruna Irani, I.S.Johar, A.K.Hangal, Om ShivPuri, Dulari, Keshto Mukherjee, Seema Deo, Ramesh Deo, Janki Dass, Lalita Kumari, Dinesh Hingoo etc in it.

Today this movie is mainly known for a few lovely songs that it contained. Here is what is perhaps the best known song from this movie. It is written by M G Hashmat and composed by Kalyanji Anandji. The song is sung by Sulakshana Pandit and it is picturised on her as well. Vikram and Jeetendra are also visible in the picturisation.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Baandhee re kaahe preet anjaane mein (Sankoch)(1976) Singer-Sulakshana Pandit, Lyrics-M G Hashmat, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

baandhee re kaahe preet
piyaa ke sang
anjaane mein
baandhee re kaahe preet
piyaa ke sang
anjaane mein
baali umar mein
main na samjhee
baali umar mein
main na samjhee
kya hai preet ki reet
baandheere kaahe preet
preet
piyaa ke sang anjaane mein

paass rahee to
main na samjhi
door huyee to jaanaa
door huyee to jaanaa
pyaar mein kaise
apnaa ban ke
koyee bane begaanaa
kaise beetegaa ab jeevan
kaise beetegaa ab jeevan
bin saathi bin meet
baandhee re kaahe preet
piyaa ke saang anjaane mein

ang lagi hai
ped ke belaa
lehar ko mile kinaaraa……
lehar ko mile kinaaraa
bin saajan ke
main hoon akeli
meraa kaun sahaaraa
aisaa soonaa laage jeevan
aisaa soonaa laage jeevan
jaise sur bin geet
baandhee re kaahe preet
preet
piyaa ke sang anjaane mein
baali umar mein
main na samjhee
baali umar mein
main na samjhee
kya hai preet ki reet
baandhee re kaahe preet
preet
piyaa ke sang anjaane mein

This is indeed a lovely number! And it has been sung so beautifully by Sulakshana Pandit. She was a much better singer than an actress. Gifted with such a good voice, I wonder why she pursued a career in acting. Today, sadly, she’s all but forgotten…..

By the way, did you know that Jatin-Lalit, the music director, duo are Sulakshana’s and Vijeyta’s brothers?

Yea ,I think most of us we know.
Also,Music director Aadesh Srivastava is Vijeyta’s husband.
Suprise to know that they being MDs did not give them chance to sing As both sisters are very good singers.
Vijeyta was given chance once, i remember song ‘jab nahin aaye the tum’..but that was also sung by Kareena kapoor for that film and Vijeyta’s version went unnoticed.Sad!

Both sisters were unlucky in love, Sulakshana with Sanjeev Kumar and remained unmarried, Vijayata with Kumar Gaurav and then divorced with director Sameer Malkan before marrying Aadesh. Vijayata sang more than 40 songs, mostly in movies made by Aadesh, but she was also past her prime then. In case of Sulakshana, she didnt have enough money to maintain her bungalow and didnt even have decent furniture. Jeetendra came to her rescue in recent times, got his brother-in-law to buy her house, and got her an apartment with rest of the money invested for her retirement.

If my memory serves me right,
one song was give to vijayeta pandit in Aao Pyar karein1994(Saif,Shilpa Shetty,Somi ali starrer)which has got Aadesh srivastava`music and also in “Dev”(for Kareena)

and Jatin lalit has given chance to vijayeta, to sing,in Aamir Khan`s Jo jeeta wohi sikander” and Shahrukh khan`s “Kabhi haan kabhi naa” under their music directon.
