Thahar zara o jaanewaale

Posted on: July 18, 2012

“Boot Polish” (1953) was an R K Films production. It was directed by Prakash Arora. The movie had David Abraham, Raj Kapoor, Veera, Chand Burque, Babay Naaz, Kumar, Shailendra, Bhudo Advani, Prabhu Arora etc in it.

This movie had seven songs in it. As many as six of them have already been discussed in the past.

Here is the seventh and final song from this movie. This song is sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. As per one youtube comment, Madhubala Jhaweri has also sung this song. The song is picturised on David, Ratan Kumar and Baby Naaz.

Most of the time two two female singers sing together, and there are very few lines where one of them sings solo.

Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

With this song, all the songs of “Boot Polish” (1953) have now been covered in the blog.

Song-Thahar zara o jaane waale(Boot Polish)(1953) Singer-Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Madhubala Jhaweri, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Manna Dey + Asha Bhonsle

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

thahar zara o jaanewaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale
babu mister gore kaale
kab se baithe aas lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwazle palishwaale
thahar jara o jaanewaale
babu mister gore kaale
kab se baithe aas lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale

yeh kaali palish ek aana
yeh brown palish ek aana
joote ka maalish ek aana
har maal milega ek aana
na black munaafaakhori hai
naa pagdi hai na chori hai
chhoti si dukaan lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale
babu mister gore kaale
kab se baithe aas lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale

mehnat ka phal meetha meetha
haan bhai haan re
bhaag kisi ka rootha toota
na bhai na re
mehnat ki ek rookhi roti
haan bhai haan re
aur mufat ki doodh malaayi
na bhai na re
laaanat jo phokat ki khaayen
laanat jo haraam ki khaayen
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale
babu mister gore kaale
kab se baithe aas lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale

pandit ji mantar padhte hain
woh Ganga ji nehlaate hain
ham pet ka mantar padhte hain
joote ka munh chamkaate hain

pandit ko paanch chavanni hai
apni toh ek ikanni hai
phir bhed bhaav yeh kaisa hai
jab sab ko pyaara paisa hai
oonch neech kuchh samajh na paaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale

thahar zara o jaanewaale
babu mister gore kaale
kab se baithe aas lagaaye
ham matwaale palishwaale
ham matwaale palishwaale
thahar zara o jaanewaale

Thank you Atul~ji and Nitin~ji for this song. ‘Theher zara O jaanewale..’ is such a rollicking, feet tapping song! Full marks to S~J for this enjoyable tune. I sometimes wonder whatever happened to Madhubala Zaveri………..

Thank you so much, Arunkumar~ji! I’m so happy that she settled for domestic bliss. Achha Arun~ji, any idea about Lalitha Devulkar? She had sung that superb duet..”More Raja Ho, Le Chal Nadiya Ke Paar…” with Rafi-saab.

Ratan Kumar was the most talented child actor ever along with Baby Naaz. They really lived their deglamorized roles. Pity he chose to settle in Pakistan. He is doing adult role, which can be seen on UT. Naaz died of cancer I think

Nitin Shah~ji, Rattan Kumar was not at all successful in Pakistan, and he died virtually a beggar! Difficult to believe, isn’t it?
Yes, Naaz died of cancer. She had married actor Subiraj and by all accounts, had led a very happy life……..

I linked to a couple of reviews of the film in
http://gaddeswarup.blogspot.com.au/2008/03/raj-kapoors-boot-polish.html
The first one is now behind a pay wall but a long excerpt is quoted there. Memsaab has post on Baby Naaz with links to her story, tough childhood, happy marriage and sad demise at a relatively young age.
Apologies for Iinking my own post but this is one of my favorite films and since I do not know Hindi (a few words), I depend on English reviews.
