Idhar aao pyaare kahin chal ke baithhen

Posted on: September 2, 2012

Sadhana was one of the biggest female star of her time in 1960s. But her aura was all but gone by late 1960s and 1970s. There were several reasons for that including the fact that she fell ill at the prime of her career that kept her out of movies in late 1960s. By the time she recovered and tried to make a comeback, the Hindi movie world had moved on and the new generation of movie goers had their own stars among the newer crop of female actors.

Sadhana, in the company of her producer husband R K Nayyar tried hard to make a comeback for her in 1970s, but all these efforts failed. There were quite a few movies of Sadhana that kept getting released in 1970s and even beyond. All these movies were originally begun in 1960s and they had got delayed. These delayed releases failed at the box office and Sadhana’s repeated comeback attempts proved futile.

“Mehfil” (1978) was one such delayed movie. This was a Geeta Productions movie. It was produced by Krishna Kumar and directed by Amar Kumar. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Sadhana, Anil Dhawan, Nazir Hussain, Roopesh Kumar, Dhumal, Mohan Chandulkar, Radhika Rani, Mushthaq Merchant, Jugnu, Baldev Mehta etc in it. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this obscure movie.

Today (2 september) is Sadhana’s birthday. On this occasion, here is a song from “Mehfil” (1978). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a seduction song on Sadhana and Anil Dhawan.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

I heard this song for the first time only recently when Prakashchandra sent me the lyrics of this song. This song is quite hummable. But I suspect that most music lovers may not have heard this song before.

Song-Idhar aao pyaare kahin chalke baithhen (Mehfil)(1978) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

ae suno
idhar aao pyaare
idhar aao pyaare
kahin chalke baitthen
karenge mohabbat
vagairaa
vagairaa

idhar aao pyaare
kahin chalke baitthen
karenge mohabbat
vagairaa
vagairaa
vagaairaa

manaa ke haseen

kaali ye zulfein
ye aankhein
phir bhi sanam
hamse suno
apne adaa ki
kuchch baatein
aaa aaaa aaa
kasam se sajan
mujhse
kam toh nahin hai
tumhaari bhi soorat
vagairaa
vagaairaa
vagaairaa
idhar aao pyaare
kahin chalke baitthen
karenge mohabbat
vagairaa
vagairaa

apni jawaan
baahon mein meri
gori baahon ko le lo
zid na karo
haan
maano meri baat
aahon se meri naa khelo
aaa aaa aaa
inhi meri aahon
ke parde mein jaane
chhupee hai qayaamat
vagairaa

rangeen milan kaa ye nazaaraa
jaanaa naa abhi
nahin toh piyaa
nuksaan hogaa jee tumhaaraa
ae ae ae
tumhaare liye
aaj palkon mein
dil mein
main laayee hoon jannat

EXCELLENT SONG YOU HAVE CHOSEN, FOR THE BIRTHDAY OF A SUPERB ACTRESS SADHANA.. GREAT.

Sadhana was so delicately beautiful and talented too. Unfortuntely her health problems told on her beauty. Her fortunes also plummeted along with her health.

Happy birthday to her, and may she be blessed with health and wealth

Never heard of this song, Atul! Thanks for the intro Atul and Prakashji!
I searched for a song from this film, but couldn’t find any for the post on her birthday.
Happy Birthday Sadhana!
I had thought it is on the 6th, because of Wikipedia. thanks for correcting me!

yet one more example how Wikipedia is misleading.

I thought she quite making movies in 70’s…
I have no idea that her movie from 80’s is existed!
Besides, only Ashatai can say: “vagaira” so many ways withous us getting bored of that word 🙂
So many happy return of the day & happy birthday, Sadhanaji.

Atul ji,
MEHFIL was released in 1978 and NOT 1981.
This was her last film.
One film ‘Ulfat ki nayee manzilen’ was released in 1995, a staggering 25 years after it was completed. The Hero was Raaj kumar in this film.

Thanks for this information. This movie is variously described as a 1978 movie as well as a 1981 movie and so it is difficult to make out which is the correct year of release.

And after living in the same rental house for the past 50 yrs, Sadhana has been fighting with the landlord lady, Asha Bhosle for the past year or so 🙂

This also is the only film where Shankar-Jaikishan worked with Majrooh Sultanpuri.

nahm ji,
We had a discussion on this earlier also.
Majrooh Sultanpuri had written songs in 3 films where S-J gave music-
1. Love in Bombay-1975
2. neelima-1975 and
3. Mehfil-1978.

Sorry, i remembered that discussion, and thought this to be ‘the film’ you mentioned. Instead of ‘a film’ 😦 .
